Chapter 217 Missing Riley
The next morning.
Riley woke up and saw it was almost 7:30.
She shot out of bed, did a quick wash, and skipped breakfast to rush the kids to kindergarten.
Sophie usually picked them up after kindergarten, but mornings were Riley's job.
To avoid Donovan, Riley had been departing exceptionally early recently.
But last night, she had worked late and overslept.
As she drove, she silently prayed she wouldn't run into Donovan.
But as soon as she parked, she spotted a familiar Bentley license plate behind her.
Moments later, Donovan stepped out, holding Finley.
Riley quickened her pace, hoping to get Landon and Winston inside before Donovan noticed.
"Good morning, Riley!" Zoey greeted warmly.
Riley's heart sank.
Donovan recognized her car the moment he got out. He saw Riley hurrying with the boys.
It was obvious they were trying to avoid him.
But hearing the teacher's voice, Finley perked up and looked toward the entrance.
"Riley!" Finley called out excitedly.
Donovan frowned but ultimately relented, allowing Finley to rush off. She sprinted directly towards Riley, who had just heard her name and tensed up before slowly turning around.
Finley hugged her thigh, looking up with big, excited eyes.
"Finley, you're here?" Riley softened, squatting down to touch her head.
Finley nodded and asked, "Riley, why didn't you pick up the brothers?"
She held up four fingers. "Four days, I miss you."
Riley's eyes softened, unsure how to respond.
She knew Finley missed her, but she had to avoid Donovan.
Seeing Finley's face now, Riley felt guilty.
After a moment, she found an excuse. "I've been really busy with work. I miss you too. Once I'm done, you'll see me every day."
Riley looked away, feeling guilty.
Finley nodded obediently. "I'll wait for you!"
Riley forced a smile. "Good girl, go inside with the boys. You're almost late."
She reminded her kids, "Take care of your sister."
Landon and Winston, confused by their mom's attitude, hesitated but nodded.
Watching the kids go in, Riley straightened up, nodded at Donovan, and planned to leave.
But after two steps, a large hand grabbed her wrist firmly.
