Chapter 388 Where Did the Two Kids Come From
Ever since Dalton found out Riley was Donovan's ex-wife who vanished years ago, he had this nagging feeling. So, he finally asked, "What's the deal between Dr. Monroe and Finley? I've never seen Finley lean on anyone like this."
Donovan, catching the drift, replied casually, "Finley is her daughter."
Even though Dalton had his suspicions, hearing it straight from Donovan left him momentarily speechless. The timing of Riley's disappearance, Finley's age, and her odd attachment to Riley all pointed to the possibility. But every time he saw Riley with Finley, she acted like Finley was just some kid she knew, so Dalton never let his thoughts run wild.
Now, with Donovan's confirmation, Dalton was even more confused. He thought, 'So, Riley doesn't know? She has no clue that Finley's her own daughter?'
Dalton couldn't wrap his head around it and asked, "Dr. Monroe seems clueless about this?"
Donovan nodded. "Yeah, there was some mix-up. Neither of them knows."
Dalton found it all pretty crazy. He asked, "Then why not just tell them?"
If Riley knew Finley was her daughter, maybe she'd consider getting back with Donovan for Finley's sake. It didn't have to be this complicated.
Donovan's expression darkened. "Because she has two other sons."
Initially, it was because Riley had two sons with her, and he always thought Riley knew that Finley was her daughter. Later, when he realized there had been a misunderstanding, there was no suitable opportunity to explain.
Now, Riley avoided him like the plague. Telling her might just make things worse.
Dalton knew about Riley's two kids but had never seen them. He echoed, "We don't know what Dr. Monroe's been through all these years, and I'm really curious about where those two kids came from."
Donovan stayed silent. The background of those two kids was still a mystery to him.
Seeing Donovan's silence, Dalton knew he didn't want to continue this topic. Plus, his suspicion had been confirmed, so he shifted the conversation back to the main issue. "Anyway, Dr. Monroe is Finley's biological mom. For Finley's sake, I gotta help! Don't worry, I'll handle it!"
Donovan's expression softened a bit, and he nodded. "Thanks."
Dalton grinned. "If you really want to thank me, this meal's on you."
Donovan smirked and agreed. Seeing it was getting late and they were done talking, they got up to leave.
Downstairs, the waiter came over to ask about the bill. Dalton raised an eyebrow and said, "Put it on Mr. Wilder's tab."
The waiter looked at Donovan for confirmation. Seeing him nod, the waiter bowed respectfully to both of them and watched them leave.
Back at the Benedict estate, Dalton remembered his promise to Donovan to help Riley. Without wasting time, he contacted several herbal medicine suppliers in H City who had good relations with the Benedict Group and were under its protection. Using a mix of threats and incentives, he got them to agree to consider collaborating with the Virus Research Institute.
