Chapter 63 Don't Be With This Bad Woman
At noon, Donovan's parents stayed at the estate for lunch, and Hollis also found a reason to stay.
At the dining table, Hollis was very considerate, occasionally serving soup to Donovan's parents, passing food, and even peeled shrimp for Finley, barely eating herself.
"I remember that you like shrimp. I peeled them specially for you."
Hollis pushed the plate of peeled shrimp in front of Finley.
However, Finley just glanced up and then lowered her head to eat from her own plate as if she hadn't seen it.
Hollis's hand was still on the plate, with a somewhat forced smile on his face.
After a while, seeing that Finley didn't even touch the plate of shrimp, Catherine reproached, "Finley, Aunt Hollis specially peeled the shrimp for you. You should finish it and thank her quickly."
Finley pretended not to hear and buried her head in eating.
Seeing this, Catherine frowned slightly, her tone becoming stern. "Finley, this is very impolite."
Finley paused and raised her head, her eyes full of stubbornness.
She just didn't want to eat this bad woman's stuff!
On the side, Hollis saw Catherine speaking up for him, quickly putting on a considerate and sensible look, comforting, "Don't be angry. Finley might already be full, that's why she's not eating these. Besides, Finley's emotions are unstable, to begin with; you'll scare her like this."
Catherine was pleased. "You are sensible. With you taking care of Finley in the future, I can rest assured."
Hollis cautiously glanced at Donovan with a somewhat strained smile on her face.
Catherine also looked at Donovan, her eyes full of blame.
Meeting their gazes, Donovan's expression slightly hardened, and he said to Hollis in a deep voice, "Finley doesn't eat things given by strangers. You don't need to bother."
Upon hearing this, a hint of hurt flashed across Hollis's face, awkwardly taking back the plate of shrimp.
Catherine tried to reconcile the relationship between the two, and seeing Hollis hurt, she turned to scold Donovan, "It's all your indulgence that led to this bad habit."
Donovan didn't deny it. "Children should be cautious. At least she won't eat things from strangers when she's outside."
Catherine was about to say something more when Donovan's father, Edward Wilder, coughed. "Donovan is right. Finley has been running around these days. If she eats something she shouldn't when she's outside, no one can bear that responsibility."
Catherine then finally stopped scolding Donovan.
After lunch, Donovan had work to attend to and asked what they would do later. Catherine looked lovingly at her granddaughter, saying, "It's been a while since I took Finley shopping for clothes. Finley, I will take you to buy pretty little dresses!"
Despite her dissatisfaction with her son's marriage, Catherine genuinely liked her granddaughter and thought her son, being a man, might overlook things in this regard. Every time she saw Finley, she would take her to buy a bunch of things that little girls like.
Finley was about to agree when Hollis approached and said, "Ms. Johnson, I'll go with you. It's also a good chance to see what Finley likes."
"Okay," Catherine agreed with a smile.
With that, she reached out to hold Finley's hand but missed.
Finley shook her head at her grandmother and wrote on a notebook, "I don't want to go out today. I want to practice calligraphy at home."
She didn't want to be with this bad woman!
Catherine didn't insist. Edward led his granddaughter to sit on the sofa. "Come, let me teach you. Tell Grandpa, what characters do you want to practice today?"
Finley remembered seeing the names Landon and Winston on notebooks at school and wrote "L" and "W" crookedly on the notebook.
Edward was puzzled. "Why do you suddenly want to practice these two letters?"
He couldn't think of any special significance at the moment.
Finley shook her head and tugged at her grandfather's sleeve, indicating him to teach her.
