Chapter 9 Daring to Defy Her for the First Time
Twenty minutes later.
The car slowly stopped at The Wilder family estate.
Finley didn't allow anyone to carry her. She supported herself on the seat and silently walked ahead.
Donovan followed behind quietly.
As soon as the father and daughter entered the house, they heard a call.
"Finley!"
Hollis was in the lobby, casually swiping her phone, when she heard someone come in and glanced up. Seeing Finley, she immediately ran over with a feigned concern and hugged the little girl tightly. "You're finally back! Why did you leave without saying a word? Auntie was so worried! Are you okay? Did you get hurt?"
As she spoke, she nervously checked the little girl's body.
Finley was caught off guard by her embrace and was momentarily stunned.
Hollis's insincere voice echoed in her ears, and the coldness in the little girl's eyes gradually returned.
How could this woman not know why she ran away from home?
If she hadn't told her this morning that Daddy wouldn't like her anymore and scared her, she wouldn't have secretly run away.
Thinking of this woman's hypocritical face and the beautiful aunt she met today.
In comparison, that aunt genuinely cared for her.
But Hollis in front of her was all pretense, which made the little girl find her extremely annoying.
She couldn't help but struggle.
"Finley, what's wrong with you? Don't move, Auntie will check if you're hurt."
Hollis noticed the little girl's resistance and discreetly increased her strength, sounding helpless.
Finley winced from the pain Hollis caused and struggled even harder, her resistance becoming more apparent.
A hint of barely noticeable impatience flashed in Hollis's eyes.
This little mute girl used to shrink and say nothing when Hollis disciplined her in private.
This was the first time she dared to defy her!
If it weren't for Donovan being present, Hollis wouldn't have let her be so unruly!
Afraid of Donovan noticing anything unusual, a sparkle flashed in her eyes as she eased the pressure on Finley's body and fell to the ground following Finley's force.
She looked at Finley in astonishment and said, "Finley... Auntie knows that you've never liked me, but Auntie is really worried about you. Why did you..."
As she spoke, her voice choked up a bit and her eyes turned red.
Donovan took off his coat and turned his head, just in time to see this scene. He furrowed his brows and pulled the little girl to his side. "Finley, Daddy knows you're not happy, but it's not okay to take it out on others. It's very impolite to treat others like this, understand?"
Upon hearing these words, Finley felt stubborn and wronged.
Daddy always spoke up for this bad woman!!!
She sulkily shook off Donovan's big hand and hugged the doll tightly in her arms, then turned and ran upstairs.
Only after seeing the troublesome little mute girl have left did Hollis slowly rise from the ground and softly said, "Finley has just come back. She must have been scared outside. Don't blame her..."
Donovan interrupted her words without much care, "You can leave now. Finley is still angry and probably doesn't want to see you."
Hollis's expression froze for a moment, and after a while, she awkwardly smiled, "Alright, I'll come visit her another day."
After saying that, she lowered her head and quickly left.
Coming out of the Wilder family estate, Hollis's expression changed dramatically.
That little bitch had actually been found! And she dared to give her attitude!
Why didn't she die outside!
What a pity!
...
At Virtualicious Bistro, Harper stayed for a while after Donovan left.
When it was almost time, she came out.
She walked quickly to the car.
"Are you alright?"
Riley opened the car door for her as soon as she saw her, "Did he leave?"
Harper got in the car and sighed, "Yes, he left. You didn't see the way he looked at me, as if he could see through everything. I almost couldn't handle the pressure and was about to expose you."
Riley gratefully smiled, "Thank you. Shall we go somewhere else to eat? My treat."
Harper waved her hand, "No need. I packed the leftovers. It's so difficult to get a reservation at this restaurant, finally getting to eat here, I want to savor it."
