Chapter 255 Living with Riley
With no other methods, Donovan nodded.
Zoey gathered the parents and asked who could share a room with Donovan.
Finley held Donovan's hand and immediately looked at Riley when she heard the teacher. She wanted to stay with Riley.
Given Donovan's status and good looks, a bunch of parents quickly volunteered to share a room with him. Even some moms with kids joined in.
Finley, still dealing with autism, got overwhelmed by the crowd of unfamiliar adults. Her face turned pale.
In a moment of his distraction, Finley broke free from Donovan and ran out.
Riley was nearby when Finley ran straight into her arms, looking up with wide eyes.
"What's wrong, Finley?" Riley asked, worried about her pale face.
Finley clutched Riley's skirt, eyes determined. "Stay with you!"
Riley was taken aback. If it were just Finley, she wouldn't refuse. But accepting Finley meant Donovan would also stay with them, and Riley wasn't sure how to handle that.
Donovan saw Finley run to Riley and understood. Finley was scared of the unfamiliar parents but felt safe with Riley. To keep Finley calm, he had to stay with Riley too. But he didn't know how Riley felt about it.
Donovan nodded to the crowd and walked over to Riley. "Ms. Monroe, would you take in Finley and me?"
Riley looked up, surprised. She thought Donovan felt the same as her but didn't expect his request. She didn't want to share a room with Donovan but couldn't leave Finley.
Finley's face was pale from the shock, and seeing Riley hesitate, her eyes reddened, and she looked down, upset.
The parents who Donovan had rejected were already jealous. Seeing Riley's reluctance made them angrier.
"Ms. Monroe, Finley likes you so much. Can you bear to make her sad?"
"If you don't want to, just say so. We'd be happy to have Mr. Wilder and Finley!"
People started criticizing Riley, making her uncomfortable.
Donovan grew displeased and glanced at the few who spoke. They quickly shut up.
Donovan turned to Riley. "Finley's situation is special. She can't handle staying with strangers. She likes you a lot. Please, for her sake, take us in."
Riley almost forgot about Finley's condition because she had been acting so normal. Donovan's words and Finley's frightened look made her heart ache.
Zoey came over, looking apologetic. "Ms. Monroe, I'm sorry to trouble you. If possible, I can give you the large double room for convenience."
Seeing Finley's pitiful look, Riley sighed. "Alright, Zoey. I'll take them in."
