Chapter 98 Perfect Match
For a while, there was no movement in the living room.
Donovan glanced over and saw Riley holding Finley on the sofa, half-leaning against the back, deep in sleep.
As she was holding Finley, Riley's upper body posture was awkward, and she slept somewhat restlessly. Every time she was half-awake, she subconsciously tightened her embrace.
Seeing this scene, Donovan's heart stirred.
Auntie Cole came over to check on Finley again. Just as she reached the sofa, she saw Mr. Wilder gesturing for her to be quiet.
Seeing this, Auntie Cole slowed her steps and carefully approached the two to take a look. She couldn't help but smile at the sight of their sleeping faces.
Indeed, the bond between mother and her daughter was unbreakable.
Even though they hadn't seen each other for a few years, Finley instinctively sought for comfort from Riley, who was also very fond of Finley.
Seeing the small blankets draped over them, Auntie Cole frowned, quietly retreated, and soon returned with a large blanket, handing it over in Donovan's direction.
Donovan frowned a bit, hesitated for a moment, but still got up to take the blanket. He carefully covered the two and tucked it under Riley.
After completing this series of actions and preparing to get up, his eyes caught Riley's sleeping face.
Donovan involuntarily stopped in his tracks in this ambiguous distance, his gaze lingering on Riley's face.
This was the first time Donovan had looked at Riley from such a close distance.
In this view, Riley indeed seemed to be sleeping restlessly. Her curled eyelashes trembled from time to time as if she could wake up at any moment.
Donovan couldn't help but wonder when Riley would wake up.
Suddenly, Riley grimaced in her sleep, her head leaning against the sofa, back slowly slipping.
Seeing Riley about to fall over completely, Donovan instinctively reached out to support her head, almost half embracing her in his arms.
Riley's soft cheek pressed against his palm, a gentle and delicate touch transmitting to Donovan's hand.
Donovan's eyes darkened, afraid of waking the person in his arms and maintaining this posture without moving.
On the side, Auntie Cole watched as Donovan held Riley, with Riley holding Finley in her arms, a thought flashing through her mind.
Even though Riley had been away for six years, if she were to come back, it might not be impossible.
With this in mind, Auntie Cole's eyes toward the three of them carried a hint of a smile.
"Mr. Wilder, why don't you take Ms. Monroe and Finley upstairs to rest? Ms. Monroe will surely wake up with a sore back tomorrow if she stays here. And she still has work to do, " Auntie Cole suggested.
Donovan furrowed his brows, looking at her in his arms. After a while, he nodded without expressing any meaning.
Seeing Donovan's consent, Auntie Cole approached and lifted Finley from Riley's arms. Fortunately, Finley was already sound asleep and only stirred slightly when Auntie Cole picked her up, without waking up.
Once Auntie Cole had Finley settled, she smiled and said, "Ms. Monroe will need your help."
After speaking, Auntie Cole stood aside, waiting for Donovan to act.
At the words, Donovan hesitated once again.
After a long while, Donovan carefully bent down and lifted Riley.
Nestled in his arms, Riley unconsciously tilted her head, resting it on Donovan's shoulder, not waking up even when he straightened up.
Donovan looked at Riley in his arms, his brows furrowed, there was a hint of displeasure in his eyes.
Riley felt weightless in Donovan's arms as if she had no substance. 'How had she taken care of herself all these years?' he thought.
Auntie Cole watched Mr. Wilder holding Ms. Monroe, her eyes filled with a contented smile.
No matter how she looked at them, she thought that they were a perfect match!
