Chapter 410 It Surprised Him
Riley's face went tight, and she clamped her lips shut, not saying another word.
The ride was dead silent.
The car rolled to a stop at the entrance of the Elite Club.
Looked like the banquet was already in full swing, with fancy cars lined up at the entrance.
Seeing this, Riley felt a twinge of anxiety. She hopped out of the car and hurried towards the entrance.
Donovan frowned and asked coldly, "Ms. Monroe, are you planning to just walk away without a word?"
Riley paused, glanced back at him, and hesitated before saying, "Thanks, Mr. Wilder."
Then she turned to leave again.
Donovan's sarcastic voice followed her, "That's all?"
Riley felt both anxious and helpless, but she forced herself to stay calm. "So, what does Mr. Wilder want? I'm in a rush and don't have time for coffee."
Last time, Donovan had bailed her out, and she had thanked him with a cup of coffee.
This time, she didn't have the time for that.
Donovan, however, smiled slyly and walked towards her. "I won't take up much of your time. I just need a date. If Ms. Monroe doesn't mind, we can go up together."
Hearing this, Riley pressed her lips together and frowned, not responding.
Being his date could easily be misunderstood.
But she knew Donovan's personality.
If she didn't agree, he probably wouldn't let her go up so easily. Plus, even if she didn't agree, he could still make it look like they were together.
It was better to agree and set some terms with him.
With that in mind, Riley calmly agreed but ignored Donovan's offered arm.
Donovan smiled but didn't push it.
They walked in side by side.
The main event was on the second floor. When they showed up, all eyes were on them.
They saw the two, one in black and one in white, both looking sharp. Even though they weren't acting close, they somehow seemed like a perfect match.
Everyone watched them walk into the center of the banquet.
Riley, under all those eyes, forced herself to stay calm and scanned the crowd. Luckily, she didn't see any familiar faces from H City, and she breathed a little easier. Still, she tried to subtly distance herself from Donovan.
Donovan seemed to catch on. Wherever Riley moved, he followed.
Riley couldn't help but stop, forcing a smile at him. "Mr. Wilder probably has other things to do. I won't keep you."
She nodded slightly at Donovan and headed towards a corner, almost like she was fleeing.
Donovan watched Riley's almost panicked retreat, his eyes darkening, but he didn't stop her.
Riley had already surprised him by agreeing to be his date.
The whole date thing was just a whim, and he hadn't expected her to agree.
Maybe she agreed because they weren't in H City.
Thinking of this, Donovan's lips curled into a self-mocking smile.
On the other side, Riley stood in the corner, looking up to find Zachary in the crowd when a familiar voice sounded in her ear.
"Riley, you and Mr. Wilder..." Adam, a rising star in the medical field, had also received an invitation from the Rogers Group. With nothing much to do recently, he decided to attend, but he didn't expect to see Riley here.
Nor did he expect her to show up with Donovan.
