Chapter 305 Overexertion

Just as Riley was in a tough spot, Donovan showed up at the door.

Seeing Riley on the bed, Donovan's brow furrowed. One look and he knew she was worse off than before.

"Mr. Wilder," Riley greeted him stiffly, avoiding eye contact, clearly not wanting to chat.

Donovan noticed her distance and turned to Robert. "Check on her," he said.

Robert stepped forward to examine Riley.

Riley frowned, confused by the fever and Robert's presence.

"This is the Wilder family's doctor. I brought him to check on you," Donovan explained.

Riley's eyes showed resistance. Why was the Wilder family's doctor here?

"No need, I'm a doctor. If it gets worse, I'll go to the hospital," she said coldly.

Donovan saw through her act. "If you could get up, would you be lying here talking to me?"

Riley was speechless. The fever had drained her. She hadn't even asked Sophie for help to sit up. Forcing herself now would show her weakness. She didn't know how to handle Donovan's sudden concern.

As she hesitated, Donovan said, "If you're sick, Finley will be upset. Her condition is already unstable. I don't want her affected again."

The little one nodded, gripping Riley's arm with a worried look. "Riley," she crooned.

The little one's red eyes and nose made her look pitiful.

Hearing him bring up Finley as a reason and seeing the little one's sad face, Riley couldn't say no. She finally agreed.

Seeing their mom agree, Landon and Winston sighed in relief. They feared she'd resist the doctor because of their dad. As Robert approached, the two kids made way.

After examining Riley, Robert told Donovan, "Ms. Monroe's fever is from overexertion and a cold. I'll prepare some IV medication."

Donovan nodded, looking at Riley with regret.

Riley's cold was from stubbornly staying in the rain last night. He felt responsible.

The rain was heavy; he should've insisted on escorting her or given her the umbrella.

Riley felt his gaze and looked away, knowing her fever was her own fault.

She believed to Donovan, her stubbornness seemed like self-inflicted suffering. Riley felt a hint of self-mockery.
