Chapter 195 We're Even
When they left the hospital, it was not yet eight o'clock.
Riley had been lying in bed for two days and nights, feeling her bones stiff. Finally breathing in the fresh air outside, she stretched comfortably.
Landon and Winston followed closely behind her, afraid that something might happen to her again.
"Ms. Monroe, you should go home and rest for a while, even if it's just for the morning!" Sophie advised her earnestly.
Riley turned back and smiled. "I'm fine, don't worry. I had a major surgery the day before yesterday, sweated a lot, didn't clean up much, and rushed to the kindergarten. I might have caught a cold on the way, which is why I had a fever. I'll be more careful in the future."
After speaking, she squatted down and patted the kids on their heads, "I have to go to the research institute to work. Let Sophie take you to the kindergarten, okay? It might be a bit late, but I will tell Zoey."
The kids looked at her with some concern.
If possible, they also hoped that she could go back and rest for a while.
But they knew their mommy well and understood that she wouldn't delay her work.
After hesitating for a while, they reluctantly nodded.
Riley stood up and looked at Sophie. "I'll leave the kids to you. I won't go with you. I'll inform the teacher."
Sophie had no choice but to agree.
"Thanks for yesterday, but let's consider it as a return for me taking care of Finley before. From now on, we're even." Riley walked towards Donovan, who was standing at the door, and spoke calmly.
Hearing this, Donovan's face remained unchanged, but his eyes darkened slightly.
After a while, he pulled his lips into a faint, ambiguous smile. "Alright."
Riley was about to turn and leave when a small hand grabbed her skirt.
"Auntie!" Finley didn't understand what "even" meant, but felt that Riley's words were strange and anxiously grabbed her skirt.
Riley paused and turned to look at her. "What's wrong, Finley?"
Finley's big, watery eyes were full of grievance. "I like Auntie."
Seeing this, Riley's heart melted, and she couldn't help but hug Finley. "I like you too. Thank you for visiting me."
With Riley's hug, Finley's mood gradually improved.
But seeing Riley's departing figure, she still felt a bit reluctant.
Riley walked to the two boys and went to the roadside with Sophie to hail a cab.
Sophie had taken a cab in the morning, and Riley was brought by Donovan yesterday, so they had no other options.
However, it was rush hour, and after waiting for a while, they still didn't see an empty cab.
Riley was considering whether to trouble Deacon to come and pick her up.
Then she heard Donovan's voice nearby, "It's hard to get a cab now. I'll take you there."
Riley was taken aback, realizing that he hadn't left yet.
Turning around, she saw Finley looking at her eagerly beside him and understood.
Although she felt soft-hearted towards Finley, Riley still frowned and distantly refused, "No need. Since yesterday, I've troubled you enough. You must be heading to the company, so we won't bother you. We'll take a cab."
After she finished speaking, she noticed Donovan frowning slightly, seemingly displeased.
Riley stopped talking, unsure which of her words had angered Donovan again.
