Chapter 392 How Much Pressure Riley Had Been Under

After Riley finished talking, she didn't bother with the reactions of the two guys and just plopped down across from Dalton.

Dalton shot a quick look at Donovan, who was still standing there awkwardly. "Hey, Donovan, since Dr. Monroe's cool with it, why don't you stick around? She's been dealing with some stuff lately, and maybe you can help out."

Donovan frowned but sat back down without a word. This time, seeing that Riley didn't run away, he naturally wouldn't just leave.

Riley, though, just made a polite comment and then ignored him. When the food arrived, she raised her glass to Dalton with a graceful smile. "Thanks, Mr. Benedict, for helping out with the herbal suppliers."

Dalton gave a casual smile, clinked glasses with her, and said, "Dr. Monroe, you're too kind. I wasn't the only one who made this happen."

Riley frowned a bit, not quite getting what he meant.

Dalton was about to drop another hint, but then he caught Donovan's warning look.

Feeling Donovan's stare, Dalton smoothly changed the topic. "Honestly, if it weren't for the Virus Research Institute's strong rep, those suppliers wouldn't have even talked to me. So, Dr. Monroe, you should be thanking yourself for being so capable."

Riley smiled slightly and asked, "How are those suppliers you mentioned? If needed, I can talk to them myself."

Even though the suppliers were willing to cooperate because of Dalton, the final deal was with the Virus Research Institute. Riley was the one who could explain things best.

Dalton shook his head. "No need. Several suppliers have already agreed to work with your institute. You just need to iron out the details."

In other words, the deal was on; they just needed to sort out the specifics.

Riley's eyes lit up, feeling a huge weight lift off her shoulders. The stress that had been eating at her for days finally started to ease.

With the herbal supply issue sorted, she could move abroad with the kids without any worries. No one would bother her anymore.

Thinking about this, Riley instinctively glanced at Donovan, who was sitting next to Dalton.

As she turned, her eyes met his. Their gazes locked, and Riley was momentarily stunned.

Donovan's utensils were untouched. He just sat there, listening to their conversation with a blank expression. When they talked business, he instinctively looked at Riley to see her reaction.

Riley's relaxed expression caught his eye.

Donovan's eyes darkened a bit, realizing how much pressure Riley had been under while he was away.

When Riley turned her head, he couldn't look away and just stared into her eyes.

They stared at each other for a long moment before Riley snapped out of it, pinched her palm, and looked away with a frown.

Thinking about Donovan's gaze, Riley felt a weird sensation in her heart. She had looked at him instinctively, thinking she was finally leaving. But him? Why was he looking at her?

Seeing Riley look away, Donovan's lips curled into a meaningful smile, and he quietly shifted his gaze.
