Chapter 336 Made Up Her Mind
Riley eyeballed Catherine's snooty attitude, knowing there was no way to change her mind. Honestly, she didn't care; they wouldn't be crossing paths again anyway.
With that thought, Riley chilled out and said, "Mrs. Wilder, don't worry, not everyone is into your son. I'm definitely not. The only reason I even talk to him is 'cause of Finley. Now that you've said your piece, I'll make sure to steer clear of Mr. Wilder."
As for Hollis's injury, Riley had no clue if it was her fault and didn't plan on bringing it up again.
Catherine stared her down, like she was trying to figure out if Riley was for real. After a bit, she sneered. "Good. You better stick to that."
Riley gave a slight nod. "If that's all, I gotta get back to the kids. I'm out. This coffee's on me."
Without waiting for a reply, Riley got up to leave. Just as she stood, she spotted Donovan not too far away. Riley had no idea when he showed up or why, but he looked seriously pissed.
Their eyes met, and Riley's heart skipped a beat. She quickly looked down, squashing the weird feeling, then looked back up and greeted him coolly, "Mr. Wilder."
Donovan's frown deepened, his eyes heavy as he stared at the seemingly indifferent Riley.
Early that morning, he'd gotten a message saying his mom had gone to see Riley, and they were at this café. Thinking about yesterday, Donovan knew Catherine was probably giving Riley a hard time, so he dropped everything and rushed over. But he hadn't expected to hear Riley's snarky comments.
Not everyone was into him; she definitely wasn't.
Hearing that, Donovan almost stopped in his tracks, feeling nothing but irony.
Six years ago, Riley was all about him. Now, six years later, she could say stuff like that without batting an eye.
Looking at the distant Riley in front of him, Donovan's throat tightened. "What did you mean by that?"
Riley glanced at Catherine, who was still sitting there, and a faint, indifferent smile crossed her lips. "I don't know what you heard, but I meant every word. I'm sure you get it, so let's just stay out of each other's way from now on."
With that, Riley nodded at the two of them and walked off.
Just as she passed Donovan, a big hand grabbed her wrist. Riley's face hardened, and she hissed, "Let go of me!"
Donovan frowned, looking at Riley beside him, his presence overwhelming. Riley gritted her teeth, glaring back at him.
Meeting her gaze, Donovan's grip tightened for a moment, but then he let go, releasing her slender wrist. He could see Riley had made up her mind, and nothing he said would change that.
Riley turned away, walked to the cashier to pay, and left without looking back.
