Chapter 300 Mommy Has a Fever
When she got home, Harper had already picked up the kids, and they were playing with Legos in the living room.
Seeing her all wet, the kids were worried. "Mom, did you get caught in the rain?"
Riley, tired but reassuring, patted their heads. "Yeah, I didn't expect rain and got a bit wet on the way to the car. No big deal."
She asked Sophie to watch the kids and went upstairs to shower and change.
Afterward, she played with the kids for a bit before heading to her room to rest.
Riley, exhausted from the past few days, fell asleep almost immediately.
She woke up in the middle of the night feeling hot and tried to get some water. Her arm went limp, and she fell back onto the bed.
Realizing she might have a fever, she decided not to wake anyone and hoped to sleep it off.
Early the next morning, Landon and Winston woke up excited. Recently their mom had been busy, but now she could take them to school again.
But even after breakfast, she hadn't come downstairs.
Worried about being late, the kids went upstairs to knock on Riley's door. No response.
They quickly got Sophie. "Sophie, Mom isn't opening the door. Please check."
Sophie, worried, used a key to open the door. The kids rushed in.
They found her weak on the bed, face flushed, lips dry—clearly with a high fever.
"Mom!" Winston called out, but got no response.
Sophie touched Riley's forehead, looking serious. Riley's fever was worse than last time.
Realizing Riley wouldn't wake up soon and couldn't go to the hospital, Sophie grew anxious.
Landon, concerned, said, "Sophie, call in for me and Winston. We need to stay home to take care of Mom."
Sophie agreed, called Zoey, and got a wet towel to lower Riley's temperature.
The kids stayed by the bed until Riley finally woke up.
Riley, in a deep sleep, struggled to wake up, vaguely hearing the kids' voices before opening her eyes.
"Mom!" The kids crowded around her, excited.
Riley, momentarily stunned, tried to get up. "I'm sorry, I overslept."
She was still thinking about taking them to kindergarten.
Landon and Winston gently pressed her back onto the bed, serious. "You have a fever. We took the day off to take care of you."
Riley, remembering her fever, was moved by their concern.
