Chapter 283 No Longer Want to Care
At the Wilder mansion, Hollis went straight to Catherine after Donovan kicked her out that afternoon.
When Catherine saw her, she immediately asked, "Did you find Finley?"
Hollis shook her head, looking downcast.
Catherine scolded, "Finley’s still missing, and you’re back? Shouldn't you be out looking for her?"
Even though she usually favored Hollis, this time, Hollis had gone too far.
Feeling guilty, Hollis said, "I want to help, but..."
"But what?" Catherine snapped.
Hollis, with tears in her eyes, looked at Catherine pitifully. "Donovan blamed me for not watching Finley and told me to leave. He was already so anxious, I didn't want to make things worse."
Catherine had only heard over the phone that Hollis hadn't taken good care of Finley, leading to her running off, but she didn't know the full story.
Now, hearing that Donovan was angry with Hollis, she was puzzled. "What exactly happened? How did Finley run off?"
Hollis, choking back sobs, explained, "When I got there, there weren't enough hotel rooms. Donovan and Riley were sharing a room, so I wanted to get him another one."
She glanced at Catherine's reaction and continued, "I went to check for available rooms. Just as I got into the elevator, Finley followed me in. When the doors opened, she ran out, and I didn't react in time."
Catherine's face darkened, guessing that Finley didn't want to leave Riley.
What kind of hold did Riley have on Finley? Despite being her mother, Riley had never cared for her. Why was Finley so attached to her?
Moreover, Catherine frowned at Hollis's words. "Donovan and Riley are sharing a room?"
Hollis nodded, looking upset. "There weren't enough rooms, so I thought it might not look good and wanted to get them another one. I didn't expect Finley to get so angry. It's my fault."
Catherine's face darkened, but she let Hollis into the living room and said softly, "It's not your fault. You did the right thing. You and Donovan are about to get engaged; he shouldn't be sharing a room with Riley!"
"But if it weren't for this, Finley wouldn't have run off..." Hollis cried, tears streaming down her face. "It's so late, and there's still no news. I'm really afraid something has happened to Finley. She's so young... If anything happens to her, I don't know how can I forgive myself!"
Mentioning Finley, Catherine also felt heavy-hearted but no longer blamed Hollis. Instead, she comforted her. "Don't worry. Donovan is still looking. Finley will be fine."
Hollis sobbed, "I didn't keep an eye on Finley and let her run off. I'm afraid Donovan won't forgive me. He was so angry just now, I thought..."
She thought Donovan would hit her like last time.
But Donovan didn't.
Hollis naturally didn't think it was because he wasn't as angry as last time; she just felt that Donovan didn't want to deal with her anymore.
Catherine frowned. "He won't. This time it's not your fault either. He'll realize that once he calms down."
