Chapter 328 Donovan Ditched His Fiancée for the Kids
In the exam room, Riley had Winston checked out thoroughly and then chatted with the doc about his condition. The doc looked a bit surprised to find out Riley's knowledge of medicine, then smiled and asked, "Hey, which hospital do you work at, miss? Wanna join our team?"
Riley just smiled coolly. "Nah, I just know a thing or two."
Then she turned to the kids, "Alright, say thanks to the doctor."
The kids hopped off their chairs and gave the doc a serious bow. "Thank you."
The doc was charmed, grinning ear to ear. "No need to thank me. Just make sure you take your meds on time when you get home. Your mom's smarts saved you from staying at the hospital. You should thank her instead!"
The kids beamed and turned to thank Riley. Riley ruffled their hair, grabbed the prescription, and headed out with them.
Since she caught it early, Winston's condition wasn't too bad. Just needed to take his meds at home. Riley felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders, way more relaxed now.
As they walked, she kept reminding the kids, "Did you hear the doc? If you feel sick, tell me right away. Don't tough it out."
The boys nodded obediently.
Riley was about to ask Winston how he was feeling when she noticed from the corner of her eyes that someone was blocking their path. Even as they got closer, the person didn't move, and the kids' faces turned wary.
Seeing this, Riley's heart sank a bit, and she had a hunch. She looked up and, no surprise, saw a familiar face. Donovan stood there, looking all serious and dark-eyed.
"Mr. Wilder, need something?" Riley asked coldly, a bit taken aback.
Donovan frowned at her tone but let it slide, thinking of the kids. "How's Winston?"
Riley glanced around but didn't see Hollis. Did Donovan ditch Hollis to check on the kids? This made Riley uneasy.
For Donovan, one side was his fiancée of six years, and the other was his ex-wife's kid he just met. Both were sick, and the choice should be clear. But Donovan made the unexpected choice. After seeing Donovan's care for Hollis earlier, Riley didn't think he came for her; it had to be for Winston. Did Donovan already know the truth?
Winston's words at the pool earlier echoed in Riley's mind. Winston had said he called Donovan "daddy" just because he thought Donovan was cool. But now, Riley couldn't help but doubt again.
Thinking of this, Riley instinctively shielded the kids behind her, blocking Donovan's view.
Seeing her protective stance, Donovan's eyes darkened even more. Did Riley think he'd harm her kids? In her mind, was he that kind of guy?
Both had their own thoughts swirling.
