Chapter 187 Got Sick from Exhaustion
Upon their return to the villa, Sophie had meticulously arranged dinner, her anticipation wearing a mantle of concern as she beheld their belated arrival. "Ms. Monroe, what held you up today?"
Forcing a weary grin, Riley deflected, "Just clocked in some overtime. Can you hold it down with the munchkins? I'm beat and gonna catch some sleep upstairs."
Registering Riley's fatigued countenance, Sophie readily acquiesced.
Issuing quick directives to her sons, Riley retreated to her chambers.
Dawn ushered in a new day, replete with the aroma of freshly-prepared breakfast wafting through the villa's corridors. However, Riley's presence remained conspicuously absent. In her stead, Landon and Winston descended independently, groomed and ready for the day ahead.
"You guys eat first, I'll go check on her." Sophie declared, her thoughts veering back to Riley's weariness the prior evening.
Moved by their considerate words, Sophie hesitated before yielding to their insight.
Post-nourishing the boys, Sophie escorted them to the kindergarten. Upon her return, the lingering silence from Riley's quarters persisted, prompting Sophie to refrain from intrusion as she warmed a serving of porridge, awaiting her awakening.
As Riley roused, a swift glance at the hour jolted her upright. It was 11 a.m.! The boys had likely missed the school bell, she thought.
Almost springing from her cocoon of covers, a sudden recollection of the nanny's presence washed over Riley. The kids were doubtlessly under her care and had gone to the kindergarten!
Embracing this realization, a wave of relief mingled with an inexplicable fatigue that enveloped Riley anew.
After lying in bed for a while, there was a knock on the door.
"Ms. Monroe, are you awake?" Sophie, who had been waiting all morning, quickly came up to check as it was already noon.
Riley responded, "I'm awake, I'll be down in a bit."
After speaking, Riley realized her voice was somewhat hoarse.
It seemed like she might have caught a cold.
Riley didn't pay much attention to it, got up, washed up briefly, and went downstairs to eat. As she walked, the feeling of fatigue became even more pronounced.
"Ms. Monroe, why is your face so red?" Sophie brought her the heated porridge and was startled by her appearance.
Riley sluggishly furrowed her brows. "I might have a bit of a fever. Could you please find me some medicine?"
Sophie quickly fetched the fever medicine from the first aid kit.
Riley took the medicine, and although she had no appetite, she forced herself to eat a bit before going back upstairs to rest.
She hadn't expected that just performing a major surgery would leave her so exhausted and sick. 'When had my body become so weak?' she thought to herself.
Perhaps due to the fever, Riley's thoughts were scattered.
After some random thoughts, she drifted off to sleep again.
In the evening, seeing that Riley hadn't come down, Sophie knew she hadn't recovered yet and went to the kindergarten to pick up Landon and Winston.
As soon as she arrived at the kindergarten, Sophie saw Finley sticking close to the boys. When Finley saw her, there was a hint of disappointment in her eyes.
The two boys knew Finley wanted to see Riley and, fearing she wouldn't go back like the previous day, proactively asked, "Sophie, where's Mommy?"
Sophie, worried about Riley lying alone at home, couldn't help but show a troubled expression. "Ms. Monroe is unwell and is resting at home. Let's go back early!"
Hearing this, both Landon and Winston looked concerned.
They thought Riley just needed a usual rest, but they hadn't expected her to be so exhausted that she got sick this time.
