Chapter 231 Can We Leave Now?
The car rolled to a stop at the hotel entrance. Riley finally broke the silence. "Thanks, just drop me off here."
Having swiftly nodded at Donovan, she proceeded to open the door and stepped out. Her feet barely landing on the ground, she nearly stumbled. The alcohol and the warm car had made her drowsy.
Her legs felt like jelly as she got out. Just as she was about to fall, a strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her back into the car.
Once she was seated, the arm let go.
It took Riley a moment to process what had just happened. The closeness made it awkward to say thanks.
"I'll walk you up," Donovan said, already stepping out of the car.
Before Riley could react, Donovan was at her door, his gaze fixed upon her, waiting for her to get out.
She hesitated but carefully got out, more cautious this time and avoiding another stumble.
Donovan watched her walk straight ahead, retracting his arm, and followed her with long strides.
At her hotel room door, Riley stopped and looked at Donovan. "Just drop me off here. I can handle the rest. Thanks for tonight, Mr. Wilder. I'll make up for the coffee I owe you another day."
Upon opening the door and entering, she was about to close it. However, Donovan proceeded to follow her inside.
Riley glared at him. "Mr. Wilder, it's not appropriate for you to follow me into my room. If you don't leave, I'll call security!"
Donovan frowned. "I don't mean any harm. Relax."
He was genuinely worried about her.
Riley watched him walk in and pick up the bedside phone, feeling a headache coming on.
"Send up some hangover relief, please," Donovan called the front desk.
Soon, there was a knock on the door.
They hadn't closed it, so Riley saw the server holding a cup of warm water as soon as she peeked out.
Accepting the water graciously from the server, Donovan then made his way back to Riley. "Drink this, and I'll leave."
Riley didn't know what to do with him anymore.
He handed her the warm water again.
Anyone who saw this wouldn't believe this was the powerful Mr. Wilder from H City.
Riley drank the water and looked at Donovan. "Can you leave now?"
Donovan frowned but didn't push it. He turned and left the room.
After closing the door, he instructed Paxton, "Get me a room next door."
Paxton was stunned for a moment, then quickly understood and headed downstairs to book a room.
Inside, Riley still felt dizzy despite the hangover relief. She did a quick wash-up and lay down on the bed.
Maybe it was the alcohol, but she couldn't stop thinking about how, six years ago, she had tried everything to get Donovan's attention, but it never worked. Now, his considerate actions since they reunited left her mind in turmoil.
