Chapter 288 I Waited for So Many Years
Since it was Riley who had found Finley, Catherine stayed quiet, trying to calm the crying girl in her arms.
Eventually, Finley stopped crying.
"Good girl, Finley," Catherine said, patting her back. "Hollis likes you. She didn't mean to upset you. Can you forgive her?"
Finley frowned at Hollis's name and reached for Donovan.
Donovan took her and said, "She can't forgive her. Even if Finley does, I won't!"
He glared at Hollis. "This is enough. I can't marry you. We're done. Stay away from Finley!"
Everyone looked shocked.
Catherine grabbed Donovan's arm. "Do you know what you're saying? Your engagement is public. What about our families' reputations?"
Donovan stood firm. "Not my problem. I opposed it when you announced it without asking me."
Catherine's face darkened. She had thought she could control him, forgetting he now ran the Wilder Group. He had only listened to her out of respect.
"But..." Catherine hesitated. "Your engagement is to repay Mr. Sutton's kindness. How will you explain this to him?"
Donovan frowned. "The Sutton family has received enough from us. We'll keep supporting them in business, as long as they don't mess up."
Hollis's eyes widened. Donovan had planned this for a long time! Was it after he rejected her last time or when Riley came back?
Donovan's cold gaze fell on her. "If there's nothing else, Miss Sutton, please leave."
Hollis frantically apologized. "Donovan, I was wrong. I'll be good to Finley from now on. Please don't be mad."
Donovan remained unmoved.
Desperate, Hollis reached for his sleeve, but he avoided her.
"I've waited for you for years, Donovan..." she pleaded. "I'll change. Please don't do this."
Seeing Donovan's expression unchanged, she looked to Catherine for help.
Catherine shook her head. "You should go back first."
She knew Donovan's calmness meant he was extremely angry. His words were well thought out. Nothing Hollis said would help now. Better to wait until he calmed down.
