Chapter 129: Are You Hurt?

Riley had also felt this way in the morning. Upon hearing this, her heart softened, and she replied with a smile, "Perhaps, thanks to both of you looking after your little sister, Mommy feels much more at ease.”

Winston patted his small chest confidently and promised in his childish voice, "Don't worry, Mommy. Landon and I will continue to take care of Finley!"

Riley couldn't help but laugh.

Upon hearing the child's assurance and Riley's gentle laughter, Donovan couldn't resist glancing through the rearview mirror. Witnessing their heartfelt interaction, a sense of warmth also flickered in his eyes.”

One had to admit Riley had taught these two little ones very well. Compared to children of the same age, they seemed more like little adults.

Upon returning home, Donovan had initially intended to leave right away.

He had observed how well Riley cared for Finley, and her two children treated Finley like a sister. He felt there was no reason for him to stay and potentially make them uncomfortable. As Riley exited the car with the three children, she noticed Finley surrounded by her two siblings.

After a moment of hesitation, she glanced at Donovan and suggested, "Why don't you stay for dinner? Finley might be happier with you here.”

Donovan's eyes showed a hint of surprise. After a brief silence, he spoke in a deep voice.

"Thank you. I apologize for troubling you again." Riley remained silent, turned around, and ushered the three children inside.

Donovan shut the car door and quickly walked in after them. Once inside, Riley washed her hands and headed to the kitchen to start cooking. Landon and Winston dragged Finley to the carpet to play with Legos.

Donovan hesitated at the door but eventually stood by the carpet, ready to help the little ones.

He noticed that the scattered Legos typically meant for adults, were swiftly assembled into complete parts by the children.

Once finished, Landon hesitantly glanced up at Donovan. Donovan calmly reached out his hand, and the child obediently passed the Lego piece to him.

Without saying thank you, Landon simply pursed his lips and lowered his head. Meanwhile, Finley had been observing their interactions from the floor.

After a moment, she abruptly reached out and grabbed a Lego piece.

Seeing this, Landon and Winston couldn't help but stop their actions, their eyes sparkling with anticipation.

After a moment, Finley slowly started to move her hands, and her speed was actually on par with theirs.

The two children exchanged a joyful glance, hopeful that Finley might recall the times they spent building Legos together.

Donovan also witnessed this moment, initially surprised and then touched. It was evident that Finley truly cared for them.

Riley finished cooking and saw them all focused on the Legos. She didn't disturb them and carried a pot of soup out.

As she exited the kitchen, her arm accidentally brushed against the door frame, leading the pot to tumble to the floor and spill soup everywhere.

Hearing the commotion, everyone in the living room looked over.

Donovan was the first to react, striding over to her side. "Are you hurt?"

As he spoke, he carefully examined Riley, noticing a glaring red mark on her delicate arm.

Before Riley could respond, Donovan gently but firmly took hold of her uninjured arm and guided her to rinse it under water.

Landon and Winston, feeling concerned but unable to offer much help, started cleaning up the mess.

Riley, enduring the pain, stopped them. "Don't touch it. Don't get burned. Take Finley outside."

The two young children hesitated for a moment but eventually complied, taking Finley's hand and guiding her out.

However, Finley appeared to resist, pouting and standing still, unwilling to move.

The two children were unsure of what to do next.

Just as they were about to ask Mommy for help, they suddenly heard a sob.

All four of them were stunned and then looked in shock at Finley by the door.

They saw Finley with red eyes, tears streaming down her face, sobbing uncontrollably.
