Chapter 339 Who Could the Culprit Be?

So, the gist was that he was never gonna tie the knot with Hollis.

Catherine felt her head pounding when she heard that. She rubbed her temples and glared at Donovan, "Did you seriously come here this early just to mess with me?"

Donovan's face was a blank slate. "If you're feeling uncomfortable, I can take you to the hospital. But if you're still trying to strong-arm me into marrying Hollis, forget it. Ain't happening."

They sat there in awkward silence for what felt like forever. Catherine finally waved him off, annoyed. "Just get out of here. I don't wanna see you."

Donovan shrugged. Before he left, he said, "I've got someone posted outside. If you need anything, just let them know."

And with that, he walked out of the café without waiting for her to say anything.

"Mr. Wilder, back to the office?" the driver asked as Donovan got into the car.

Donovan frowned a bit, thinking about Riley. How was she holding up? Were her words earlier for real?

After a moment of self-doubt, he told the driver, "Yeah, back to the office."

The car rolled out, heading towards Wilder Group.

Paxton had been hanging around the office all morning. When Donovan stepped out of the elevator, Paxton rushed over. "Mr. Wilder, we've got some news on that thing you wanted me to look into."

Donovan's eyes narrowed. "Did you find the driver?"

"Not yet, but we found the car," Paxton said. "We checked every bit of surveillance footage to track the car's route after it left the parking lot. It was heading towards the suburbs. We searched the junkyards out there all night and finally found it."

They walked into Donovan's office, and Paxton shut the door behind them.

"The car's plates were fake, and it was an unregistered black car that should've been scrapped. The driver used it for the hit. Given how well he covered his tracks, this wasn't just some random accident."

Donovan nodded, agreeing with Paxton's take. The driver knew the route too well. Dumping the car in a junkyard right after the hit was a clear move to destroy evidence.

"Mr. Wilder, what's our next move? We've been digging for days, and this is all we've got. Any idea who might be behind this?" Paxton asked. The driver was so well-hidden that even the cops were stumped. Finding the car was a dead end. He needed Donovan's call on what to do next. If it was personal, Donovan would have the best guess.

Donovan thought for a bit and said, "Look into any rivals who’ve had beef with Wilder Group, big or small."

At the time of the hit, only his mom and Hollis were in the parking lot, and the car was gunning for his mom. It was planned.

He didn't think Catherine had any enemies. It had to be someone mixing business with personal grudges.

Paxton nodded and headed out to get on it.
