Chapter 62 Urging Marriage

"Dad, Mom, why are you here?" Donovan frowned and asked.

At this, Donovan's mother, Catherine Johnson, checked her granddaughter for injuries with concern while scolding, "I heard early in the morning that my precious little one was lost, and I was worried! It scared me, so your dad and I came here as quickly as we could. How could you not tell us about such a big incident?"
Donovan remained silent.
"Finley, tell grandma, where did you run off to?" Catherine confirmed that Finley wasn't hurt, affectionately embraced her in her arms, and said with concern, "You're so young; how can you run around like that alone? You scared me. You must not do this again in the future, okay?"

Hollis also chimed in, "If there's anything bothering you, you can talk to me. Don't just run off without a word; Grandma and Grandpa were worried about you, me too; we were all getting ready to go look for you; luckily, you came back!"

Held in her grandma's arms, Finley wore a cold expression, not reacting to these words at all.

Donovan knew his daughter didn't like this atmosphere, so he casually approached, took Finley from his mother's arms, and calmly said, "She's smart, didn't run far. You don't need to worry."

Finley reached back and hugged her dad's neck, burying her head on his shoulder.

Catherine looked at her granddaughter with heartache, then turned to her son and complained, "I think it's because you're always busy with work, neglecting our Finley. If you had married earlier, Finley wouldn't be so lonely with someone looking after her and wouldn't be thinking about running away from home all the time!"

Upon hearing this, Donovan's brows furrowed slightly, knowing his mother's intention was to urge him to marry sooner. He immediately promised, "In the future, I'll try not to go out on weekends and stay at home with her. I didn't plan to go out today either. It's just that there was some urgent situation at the company that I had to attend to."

Catherine's intention was not met, so she directly said, "Don't play dumb with me. I'm asking you, when are you planning to set the wedding date with Hollis? Hollis has been waiting for you for six whole years; not many girls can wait that long; you should cherish her."

On the side, Hollis tactfully linked arms with Catherine, looking at Donovan with a hint of anticipation in her eyes and a faint smile on her face.

In order to get a definite answer from Donovan, Hollis deliberately went to Donovan's parents to discuss the wedding matter. She was confident Donovan wouldn't refuse her again.

But the next moment, Donovan's response once again shattered her expectations.

"Mom, I've been very busy lately, and, as you've seen Finley's situation, she's been causing trouble by wanting to run away from home all the time. Her emotions are very unstable. I'm not considering marriage for the time being."

Catherine's brows furrowed slightly as she earnestly advised, "It's precisely because of this that you need to quickly settle your wedding with Hollis. By then, Hollis can help you take care of Finley, right? Over these years, she has always treated Finley as her own."

"Mom!"

Donovan interrupted Catherine in a stern voice, not wanting her to interfere in his marriage matters. "I said, I'm not considering it for now, and I will prioritize Finley's wishes. Please don't try to persuade me anymore!"

Seeing Donovan becoming visibly impatient, Hollis's expression changed slightly. She quickly smiled to ease the tension, "Auntie, it's okay; I'm willing to wait a little longer until Finley fully accepts me."

After hearing this, Catherine's eyes were immediately filled with emotion, and she patted Hollis's hand tenderly.

Hollis was so affectionate and gentle, but unfortunately, Donovan was unwilling to marry her.

Listening to the adults' conversation, Finley's delicate eyebrows slightly furrowed.

She didn't want this bad person to be her mommy!
