Chapter 295 Don't Rush

At the Sutton family villa, Hollis had been down ever since Donovan kicked her out. Usually, Catherine would back her up, but not this time, which meant even she couldn't help anymore.

Hollis felt crushed. She wasn't naive; after waiting for Donovan for so long, she knew he might never have planned to marry her. But she clung to a bit of hope, especially with Catherine's support. She believed that if she waited long enough, Donovan would marry her.

She never expected Riley to return from abroad and Donovan to repeatedly say he wanted to break off the engagement.

After cooling off at home for a day, Hollis still had a sliver of hope and went to see Catherine. Catherine was surprised but welcomed her in as usual.

"Auntie, am I bothering you?" Hollis asked, looking guilty.

Catherine, feeling bad about Donovan's decision and genuinely liking Hollis, smiled. "I think of you as a daughter. You're not bothering me. This is your home too."

Hollis gave a sad smile. "You used to treat me as your daughter-in-law, but now..."

Tears filled her eyes. She paused, wiped them away, and continued, "I came to apologize. I've made mistakes over the years, and I know you've tolerated me because of the Sutton family's kindness to Donovan. Now that Donovan wants to end things, I should apologize and hope you can forgive my past recklessness."

She looked at Catherine pitifully. "I always saw myself as Donovan's future wife. Whatever I did was meant to be good for you. Sometimes I messed up, but I never meant to. I won't be around like before, and I hope you can forgive me."

Seeing her hold back tears, Catherine felt a pang of heartache. She had always seen Hollis as her future daughter-in-law and was satisfied with her. Donovan's sudden decision caught her off guard.

Hollis's words struck a chord, making Catherine appreciate her even more. "Hollis, don't worry. This isn't over yet." Catherine, feeling heartbroken, sat next to Hollis and put an arm around her shoulder.

Hollis gave a bitter smile. "I know Donovan too well. He's made up his mind; there's no turning back. It's okay. If you ever feel lonely, you can still find me. You're like a mom to me."

Catherine was moved and, after thinking for a while, promised, "Hollis, don't worry. As long as the news of your broken engagement hasn't spread, there's still hope. When Donovan calms down, I'll talk to him."

Hollis's goal was achieved, but she still kept up her pitiful act and nodded bitterly.
