Chapter 434 Impossible to Give Up
"No wonder you were asking me a few days ago about when Dr. Monroe was heading to S City. I thought you were just pushing me to get something done, but turns out you wanted to see her!"
Dalton shot a teasing look at Donovan across the table.
Donovan met his gaze but didn't say a word, his face darkening a bit.
Yeah, he came to see her, but Riley didn't seem to care at all.
Dalton raised an eyebrow and pushed further, "So, you went to that dinner party the other night, huh? How'd it go? Any progress with her?"
As soon as Dalton finished, Donovan's face got even colder.
Clearly, things hadn't gotten any better between them.
Looking at his icy demeanor, Dalton was hit by a wave of confusion.
Donovan had gone to such lengths to pursue her, so why was Riley so indifferent?
It was the first time Dalton had seen Donovan put so much effort into a woman. If it were anyone else, they would've been all over Donovan by now.
This Riley, making Donovan this frustrated, was something else.
And what was Donovan after? Why was he so hung up on Riley, who kept pushing him away?
Dalton couldn't figure it out and had to ask, "Is she still giving you the cold shoulder like last time?"
Donovan furrowed his brows and stayed silent.
"Donovan, what do you really think of Dr. Monroe? You've gone to such lengths for her, but she barely acknowledges you. Are you sure you want to keep this up?" Dalton couldn't imagine Donovan being so determined to keep Riley around.
Nearby, Paxton overheard and glanced at Donovan, remembering Riley's cold attitude towards him yesterday.
Since Riley came back, Paxton had seen every interaction between them and knew Riley had been avoiding Donovan from the start.
Yet Donovan kept caring for her. It seemed like this time, Donovan was serious.
Thinking of this, Paxton cautiously spoke up for Donovan, "Mr. Benedict, given your close relationship with Mr. Wilder, you should see that Mr. Wilder genuinely wants to keep Ms. Monroe around."
After he finished, both men instinctively looked at Donovan for his reaction.
Donovan stayed silent, pretty much confirming what Paxton said.
Dalton got it, paused for a few seconds, then smiled, "In that case, as a friend, I should help you come up with some ideas. Didn't you say Dr. Monroe was planning to go abroad and wanted me to keep her here?"
Donovan raised an eyebrow slightly, knowing Dalton had a plan.
"Now that the institute's issues are sorted, if everything goes smoothly and these companies stabilize their cooperation with the institute, Dr. Monroe will probably get ready to go abroad," Dalton analyzed slowly.
Hearing this, Donovan's expression darkened again.
Given Riley's attitude towards him, once this matter was resolved, she'd definitely leave without a second thought.
If he didn't have someone keeping an eye on her, he might not even know when Riley would leave.
The thought of Riley disappearing from his life again made Donovan's mood plummet. He furrowed his brows and looked at Dalton. "So, do you have any plans to make her stay?"
Dalton sensed Donovan's frustration and confidently smiled, "Don't forget, I work in the pharmaceutical industry. I know better than anyone what Dr. Monroe desires. Also, if I'm not mistaken, she is into herbal remedies, right? "
