Chapter 303 One Person Left
"Auntie Riley..." Finley saw Riley lying weak on the bed and couldn't hold back her tears anymore.
Riley's heart melted hearing Finley's voice. She forced a smile as the little one ran to her side. "I'm okay, Finley, don't worry."
Finley clung to the bed, eyes big and watery like a sad kitten. Riley's heart softened even more. "Why did you come here alone?" she asked gently.
"The teacher said you were sick," Finley replied, voice trembling.
Riley nodded and patted Finley's head. "Thanks for caring about me."
Finley reached out to touch Riley's forehead, remembering how hot it had been the last time Riley had a fever.
Riley tried to move her forehead closer but was too weak. She managed to sit up a bit before slumping back down. Finley's hand missed, and her face showed concern.
Riley smiled gently. "Finley, if you're worried, come up on the bed with me."
Without hesitation, Finley took off her shoes and climbed up, touching Riley's forehead. Her eyes filled with panic.
Last time Riley had a fever, her dad took her to the hospital. This time, Riley's temperature seemed even higher, but she was hesitant to call him.
Meanwhile, Donovan was in a meeting when he got a call from Zoey.
Seeing the caller ID, Donovan frowned, signaled his deputy to take over, and stepped out.
"Mr. Wilder, Finley left by herself..." Zoey said nervously.
Donovan's face darkened. "What happened?"
"She got into the car you sent. I think she went to see Ms. Monroe. She asked why Landon and Winston didn't come. I told her Ms. Monroe was unwell, and Finley got in the car. She always liked Ms. Monroe..."
Zoey's concern was clear as she speculated about Finley's whereabouts.
Donovan's worry eased a bit knowing Finley was in the driver's car, but he frowned again hearing about Riley's illness. "What's wrong with Ms. Monroe?"
"She seems to have a fever. Landon and Winston are taking care of her at home," Zoey replied.
"Got it. Please get a leave of absence for Finley. Thanks," Donovan said heavily.
After Zoey agreed, Donovan hung up, looking serious. He called Paxton over. "I'm going to Riley's house. Call Dr. Davis for me."
Robert Davis was the Wilder family's doctor, very skilled and mainly serving them.
Paxton, having overheard the call, knew Robert was for Riley. He was puzzled by Donovan's feelings for her but agreed immediately.
Robert arrived quickly, and Donovan waited for him before heading to Riley's. Knowing Riley might not welcome him alone, bringing a doctor seemed the best move.
