Chapter 97 Sleeping Peacefully by Your Side

Hearing Finley's sobs, Donovan looked up.
Riley soothingly patted Finley's back, but her cries grew louder. She wriggled out of the small blanket, crying as she burrowed into Riley's arms, her tiny hands tightly gripping Riley’s clothes.
As she cried, tears welling up in her eyes, she gazed tearfully at Riley's face.
Once she confirmed that Riley was still there, her sobs lessened.
Seeing Finley's already red face grow even redder from crying, Riley felt a sudden twinge of sadness, as if through her, she saw Landon and Winston at home.
"Good girl, Auntie Riley is here. Don't cry." Riley comforted softly, gently wiping the tears from Finley's face.
Finley cried quite intensely, unable to stop herself. Her tears continued to flow, and she clung to Riley's clothes, unwilling to let go.
Riley's shoulder was damp from Finley's sweaty palms, her clothes completely crumpled, but she said nothing, just patiently comforting her.
Before long, Finley sobbed herself back to sleep, sill jerking slightly in her sleep.
Riley carefully wrapped Finley in the small blanket again, leaving only her hand outside, clutching her clothes.
Seeing the intimate scene between the two, Donovan's eyes darkened for a while, but he remained silent in the end.
Auntie Cole who was worried about Finley, came over to take a look. Seeing Finley sleeping soundly in Riley's arms, she felt relieved. "Indeed, Finley can only sleep peacefully by your side. When she's sick, she can be quite restless. No one can soothe her, and sometimes even Mr. Wilder can't do anything."
Upon hearing this, Riley couldn't help but pause.
'What about Hollis? As Finley's mother, can't she soothe Finley as well? And, this time, when Finley got sick, why didn't she show up? Does Hollis really not care about his child?' she thought.
Just as Riley was about to ask, Donovan's voice rang out.
"She should wake up again tonight. Take her to the guest room to rest. You should get some sleep too."
Auntie Cole also chimed in, "Yes, it's late. You just finished work and came over with Mr. Wilder. You must be tired. Go upstairs and rest with Finley."
The question on Riley's lips was swallowed back, hesitating as she looked upstairs. Memories of six years ago floating in her mind, a touch of bitterness rising in her heart.
Shaking her head in refusal, she said, "No need. I'll just rest here for a while. Finley finally fell asleep. I'm afraid of waking her up."
Upon hearing this reason, the two didn't say anything more.
Auntie Cole asked about them a bit more and then left.
Only the three of them were left in the living room.
As Donovan had just mentioned Landon and Winston's ages, Riley was still somewhat wary. She kept her gaze on the little one in her arms and avoiding Donovan's eyes.
For a while, there was no sound from Donovan anymore.
Riley slowly relaxed.
She had been busy all day today. Treating Mr. Benedict Senior in the afternoon had spent a lot of her energy, she now felt a bit tired.
Plus, Finley was emitting warmth in her arms like a little heater. Her even breathing echoed in her ears. Riley felt a wave of drowsiness slowly creeping up.
Although Riley tried to stay awake, she drifted off into a light sleep.
