Chapter 259 Randomly Chosen
"Mr. Wilder..."
The woman’s demeanor softened when she saw the newcomer, her fierce look replaced by a friendly smile.
Donovan gave her a cold nod and turned to Riley. "What happened?"
Riley glanced at the uneasy woman and remembered their conversation. Not wanting more trouble, she calmly said, "Nothing much. She just came over to say hi. Finley doesn't like strangers and got scared."
Donovan eyed the woman suspiciously. "Finley's not that easily scared."
The woman, looking nervous, explained, "I just thought Finley was cute and wanted to touch her. I didn't mean to scare her. I'm really sorry."
Donovan looked at Finley in his arms.
Finley pouted silently, her big eyes on Riley.
Clearly, it wasn't as simple as the woman claimed.
And Riley didn't seem eager to explain.
Thinking about Riley's aloofness, Donovan felt displeased. He said coldly to the woman, "I thought all the parents knew about Finley's situation. Since you don't, stay away from her for the next few days."
The woman bit her lip in frustration.
She had hoped to get close to Donovan and Finley, but now her hopes were dashed.
Seeing Donovan's cold face, she didn't dare argue and left with her child.
As the woman walked away, Finley sniffled, wriggled out of Donovan's arms, and grabbed Riley's dress.
Remembering how Finley had rushed to protect her, Riley felt a wave of tenderness. She patted Finley's head, took her hand, and said softly, "Landon and Winston are still hiding. Let's go find them, okay?"
Finley's eyes lit up, and she nodded excitedly.
Riley smiled and started searching the botanical garden with Finley.
Landon and Winston had grown up abroad, and Riley, being busy, had raised them in a free-range style.
As a result, the kids were very bold and could be anywhere.
Riley wasn't worried, knowing they could take care of themselves.
Donovan silently followed, watching Riley and Finley, his eyes softening.
"Landon!" Finley called softly as she walked.
Riley thought of Finley's earlier response and found her incredibly adorable, smiling.
"Over here!" Finley suddenly tugged on Riley's hand.
Riley followed Finley.
After a few twists and turns, they found Landon and Winston hiding behind a rockery.
"How did you know they were here?" Riley was surprised.
Landon and Winston were clever. It usually took a long time to find them.
She didn't expect Finley to find them so quickly.
Finley tilted her head. "I didn't know, just guessed."
Riley didn't think much of it, assuming Finley had just gotten lucky.
