Chapter 221 Because of You
After getting home in the evening, Riley quickly told Sophie she was heading out and asked her to watch Landon and Winston. Back in her room, she booked early morning tickets for herself and Adam for the next day.
Early the next morning, Riley got up, packed light, and got ready to head to the airport.
As soon as she stepped outside, she saw Adam waiting by the house.
"I figured it’d be a hassle for you to drive, so I came to pick you up," Adam said, opening the car door.
Riley thanked him and hopped in without a second thought.
On the way, they chatted casually.
Riley suddenly remembered something and looked at Adam curiously. "Adam, you usually don’t stay long here before heading abroad for work. Why have you been here so long this time?"
Adam smiled. "I was going to leave, but I got delayed because of that elder's surgery."
Riley recalled Adam mentioning his plans to go abroad the last time they had met.
The elder's surgery had been done, and the recovery was going well. Yet, Adam hadn't mentioned leaving again and had started attending domestic academic conferences instead.
Riley felt a bit puzzled and asked, "So when are you planning to leave? I'll see you off."
Adam raised an eyebrow slightly. "I'm not leaving."
Riley looked surprised. "Why? Don’t you always prefer the academic scene abroad? And you’re more used to the research environment there."
As far as she knew, Adam had been studying and researching abroad since he entered the medical field.
She didn’t know why he suddenly decided to stay.
Adam met her gaze, his eyes gentle. "Mainly because of you."
Riley was stunned.
"This time when I came back, I found the overall environment here is quite good. For example, during your last surgery, the domestic experts cooperated with you very well. Should things not pan out as expected, I can always venture abroad later," Adam explained, his tone measured.
Hearing this, Riley inexplicably felt relieved and smiled. "You're so outstanding. Now that you've decided to stay, I'm sure many hospitals will want to recruit you."
Although Adam was young, he had already made a name for himself internationally. Having him would be like having a valuable asset, so it was expected that many hospitals would compete for him.
Adam nodded noncommittally. "I do have a couple of offers from hospitals at the moment, and the pay is very good, so I'm considering it."
"If those offers are from hospitals in H City, I might be able to provide some insights," Riley chimed in. "Our research institute has conducted thorough evaluations of most of the reputable hospitals in the city recently."
Adam naturally wouldn’t refuse her kind offer.
They continued discussing the well-known hospitals in H City until they boarded the plane.
It was noon when they arrived in North City.
As soon as they left the airport, they got into the organizer's car and headed to the hotel.
The conference wouldn’t start until the afternoon, so they had some time to rest.
Since Riley and Adam had been in H City almost the entire time since returning to the States, they took the rare opportunity to explore the area around the conference venue before lunch.
After lunch, they each returned to their hotel rooms to rest and prepare for the afternoon conference.
