Chapter 223 Do You Know That Man?
H City.
Donovan thought about the not-so-pleasant conversation they had yesterday morning, and made a point of being much earlier in the morning when he went to drop Finley off.
When they got to the kindergarten gate, only a few parents were around.
But Riley was nowhere in sight.
Finley, clearly hoping to see Riley too, clung to Donovan's hand and hesitated to go inside.
Donovan frowned. Seeing Finley's reluctance, he had no choice but to wait with her at the gate.
After a long wait, they finally saw Landon and Winston, but Riley wasn't with them.
Donovan's brows furrowed. He led Finley forward. "Where's Ms. Monroe? Isn't she the one who usually brings Landon and Winston in the morning?"
Sophie hadn't seen Donovan since their last encounter at the hospital and had no idea about his argument with Riley. She assumed they were still on good terms.
Hearing Donovan's question, she smiled. "Ms. Monroe went out to work today, so I brought them."
A shadow crossed Donovan's eyes. The timing seemed too convenient. They had just had a heated conversation yesterday, and now Riley was conveniently out for work. Was she avoiding him?
Finley looked disappointed not to see Riley. She squeezed Donovan's fingers, her little face full of concern.
Donovan patted Finley's head and then looked at Sophie. "Where did she go? When will she be back?"
Sophie thought for a moment. "She probably went to North City. As for when she'll be back... I'm not sure, but it shouldn't be too long."
North City?
Donovan asked, "Is there something going on?"
Landon and Winston, holding Sophie's hands, were annoyed by his questions about Riley. They thought, 'He's about to marry another woman, so why is he so concerned about Riley?'
Before Sophie could respond, Landon and Winston answered with stern faces, "If you want to know, call Mommy yourself! We don't know!"
Even if they knew, they wouldn't tell him!
Donovan frowned slightly, puzzled by Landon and Winston's grumpy faces.
He couldn't understand why these kids were so upset with him.
Or had Riley said something to them?
Thinking of this, Donovan's eyes darkened.
Although Sophie knew what Riley was up to, she hesitated due to Landon and Winston's attitude and ultimately didn't say anything. She just said, "We don't know either, but I saw a man pick up Ms. Monroe this morning. They seemed to be together."
Hearing this, Donovan's face tensed. "Do you know that man?"
Sophie shook her head. She hadn't been working at Riley's apartment for long and had met very few of Riley's friends. However, she did remember what the man looked like. "I haven't seen him before, but he looked very cultured. Ms. Monroe seemed to call him 'Adam.' They probably knew each other from their school days."
As she finished speaking, Sophie felt an inexplicable sense of pressure.
Donovan's eyes darkened suddenly, recalling the phone call Riley received yesterday morning.
Realizing that Riley had had dinner alone with Adam and then went to North City together, Donovan felt a surge of displeasure. He thanked Sophie, handed Finley over to the teacher, and then got into his car.
