Chapter 200 It's Kind of Ridiculous
Riley had just clocked out when she overheard some colleagues at the research institute chatting about Donovan and Hollis's wedding.
"Mr. Wilder is so thoughtful. He stayed with his fiancée all night. My boyfriend wouldn't do that."
"And he's rich and handsome. His fiancée is pretty too, kind of looks like Dr. Monroe. She must be a real beauty!"
As the researchers walked by, they greeted Riley. "Goodbye, Dr. Monroe."
Riley smiled and waved back, but their conversation left her puzzled.
Donovan had taken care of his fiancée all night?
But Donovan had been with her all night. When had he met up with Hollis?
Just as she was mulling it over, Deacon caught up to her. "Got any plans tonight? Want to grab dinner?"
Riley snapped back to reality and smiled apologetically. "I have to pick up the kids. Maybe another time. "
Deacon looked a bit disappointed but didn't say anything. They chatted about the project as they walked out together.
Since she hadn't driven her car today, Riley had to hail a cab.
Deacon's car pulled up in front of her. "Didn't drive today?"
Riley nodded.
"Where to? I'll give you a ride. It's tough to get a cab now," Deacon offered with a warm smile.
Riley hesitated for a moment, checked the time, and realized she needed to pick up the kids. So she got in.
Just as she sat down, Chandler called, asking about the project's progress.
Riley gave him a quick update.
After the call, a notification popped up.
The headline read, "Mr. Wilder Takes Fiancée to Hospital Late at Night, Stays with Her All Night."
Seeing the headline, Riley thought of last night's events and the staff's earlier conversation. She opened the notification on a whim.
Two blurry photos appeared.
The moment she saw them, Riley was stunned. The woman in the photos was her.
In the first photo, she was delirious with a fever. It must have been taken when Donovan carried her from the car to the hospital.
She remembered waking up in the hospital, still in Donovan's arms.
The photos made them look so close, Donovan's embrace almost protective.
The second photo showed her getting into a car with Finley, Donovan nearby.
Whoever took the photos must have been well-hidden, as they hadn't noticed.
The reporter who published the news clearly couldn't tell her apart from Hollis, leading to this mix-up.
Fortunately, the photos were blurry. Unless someone knew her well, they wouldn't recognize her.
Riley frowned as she scrolled down, seeing comments admiring her, praising Donovan for being so good to her.
Little did they know, Riley didn't want that kind of attention.
After reading for a while and confirming that no one had realized the woman wasn't Hollis, Riley put away her phone with mixed feelings.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, Riley had no intention of clarifying the situation.
She just found the news somewhat ridiculous.
