Chapter 15 Meeting Again
Upon hearing her question, Deacon put away his smile and said seriously, "We are already working on resolving this issue."
Riley frowned and waited for him to provide more details.
"Recently, I have been in contact with a medicinal herb supplier and have discussed the possibility of long-term cooperation with them. We are about to sign a contract, and the signing ceremony has been scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. The reason things haven't been going smoothly before is because the institute was in the construction phase, with many complex matters to deal with and unstable personnel. Only recently have we finally stabilized. Additionally, the medicinal herbs in H City are mostly monopolized by large herb merchants, making them difficult to obtain. And since this is our first purchase, many suppliers have raised their prices, which is why it took us so long to negotiate the terms."
Deacon briefly explained the previous situation. It may sound simple, but he, as a researcher, had been very frustrated negotiating with those shrewd suppliers during this period. Riley could imagine the difficulties even without him going into detail. As the person in charge of the institute, it was only natural to deal with various difficulties. She had encountered similar situations when she was abroad.
After listening to Deacon's explanation, Riley's expression improved. "You've worked hard during this period."
Deacon's lips curled up slightly. "It was not hard. It's what I should do."
"Which medicinal herb supplier is it this time?"
Riley brought up the main issue again. "If possible, I'll accompany you tomorrow when signing the contract. In the future, I will take over the relevant matters of the institute, so I should greet them as well."
Deacon nodded. "Okay, I'll call you tomorrow."
Riley nodded back.
The two of them returned to Riley's office and saw that there were still people behind them who hadn't left. Riley was a bit puzzled. "Is there anything else?"
Deacon chuckled politely. "I just wanted to ask if you have any plans for tonight. Since today is your first day at work, I would like to invite you to dinner to welcome you and introduce you to your colleagues."
Upon hearing this, Riley relaxed her brow. "Thank you, but I'll treat everyone tonight. As the person in charge, I should invite everyone to dinner since we will be working together."
Deacon saw her agreement and did not fuss over these details, nodding with a smile, "Alright, see you after work."
After saying that, he started to leave.
Riley called him to a stop, "Hey, bring me the files that I need to handle later. Since you have nothing to do, I'll take a look at them first."
"Sure, I'll go get them now."
Deacon quickly brought the files over.
After delivering them, he politely exited the office, closing the door behind him.
There was only Riley left in the office.
Riley took out her phone and made a call to Harper, "Harper, do you have time tonight? Can you pick up Landon and Winston for me? I have some things to attend to and might be late getting home."
Harper didn't question her about her plans, simply replying with a "Alright."
After arranging for the two children, Riley began to look at the files.
She was engrossed in her work until Deacon knocked on the door from outside, drawing her attention away.
It was already time to leave work.
"Time flies," Riley said as she grabbed her coat and stood up to leave.
Deacon chuckled, "You're so focused on your work that it's normal to lose track of time."
The two of them walked and chatted along the way.
They left the research institute and got into Deacon's car, heading towards the restaurant.
After about ten minutes, Deacon gestured for her to look ahead, "We have arrived."
Riley glanced up and only saw a restaurant with a great atmosphere.
The restaurant was called Gourmet Haven.
Deacon parked the car and the two of them walked towards the entrance of Gourmet Haven.
At the same time they entered, a Rolls-Royce slowly pulled over at the side of the road.
Paxton got out of the car and opened the back door.
A well-built person came out of Donovan's car, their attractive eyes narrowed as they looked towards the entrance of Gourmet Haven.
Just now in the car, Donovan clearly saw someone who looked like Riley.
