Chapter 130: Finley Recovers
Upon seeing Finley in tears, Landon and Winston were momentarily stunned, unsure if they should console her.
It appeared that she was crying because their mother was hurt, which was a reaction to the outside world, bringing them a sense of relief.
Feeling heartbroken as they looked at Finley's tearful face, they turned to call for their mother. Instead, they saw her frowning slightly, bearing the pain while tending to her wound.
Observing this, Landon and Winston fell silent, their gaze shifting between their mother and Finley.
After a while, Donovan saw that it was almost done, grabbed her arm, and pulled her hand out from under the water.
Riley glanced down at the wound. Although it was still red, the pain was much less intense.
"What's wrong? Does it still hurt?" Donovan asked, noticing Riley's slight movements, his expression showing concern. Riley was momentarily surprised, then shook her head.
"It's much better now. I'll apply some ointment, and it should be fine.”
With that, she shook off Donovan's hand and turned to walk toward the door.
As soon as Riley turned around, she met the pleading eyes of the two little ones.
Riley looked in the direction they were staring in confusion and saw Finley sobbing heavily, her small body shaking with each sob but making no sound.
It was the first time Riley had seen Finley cry so intensely since her autism had become apparent, and she couldn't help but feel concerned. "Why are you crying? Are you scared?”
Saying this, she squatted down in front of Finley, raising her hand to wipe her tears.
Finley cried as she threw herself into Riley's arms, staring at her injured arm and sobbing uncontrollably.
Witnessing Finley's actions, Riley was initially shocked but then filled with joy.
This action was exactly how Finley used to behave when she saw Riley, always throwing herself into her arms.
Although Finley was crying, it was still a reaction.
Considering this, Riley raised her uninjured hand and tenderly embraced Finley in her arms, carefully inquiring, "Finley, are you feeling better? Do you recognize me?"
The child in her arms nodded slightly but continued to cry. Witnessing this, Landon and Winston's faces brightened. They approached Finley and pointed to themselves, asking, "Do you recognize us as well?”
Finley's eyes were fixed on Riley's injured arm, not paying attention to the others. The two young children felt a bit let down.
Riley noticed their disappointment and gently patted Finley's head, saying softly, "Your big brothers are here as well, look. They have been looking after you these past few days.”
Hearing this, Finley slowly lifted her head from Riley's arms, glanced at her two big brothers, and then quickly returned her gaze to Riley.
"Mommy, she is very worried about you because she saw you got hurt," Landon explained from the side.
Upon hearing this, Riley was surprised and followed Finley's gaze to her injured hand. Indeed, Finley was fixated on her injured hand.
Realizing this, Riley's heart softened. She had anticipated that it would be a lengthy and challenging process to help Finley open up, but she hadn't expected that her injury would prompt Finley to engage with the world around her.
"I am fine, don't worry," Riley said, raising her hand in front of Finley to show her.
Finley stared at it for a few seconds, then carefully blew on it.
Riley's heart warmed even further. She gently patted Finley's head and said with a smile, "Thank you, Finley. It doesn’t hurt anymore." Finley's sobbing gradually eased.
"I am a very good doctor. This injury is nothing. A bit of ointment and it will heal quickly. Do you want to come with Riley?" Riley stood up.
Hearing Riley's words, Finley quickly nodded, grabbing her clothes and following her out.
