Chapter 369 Glossing Over
"Even if he doesn't know, so what?" the voice on the other end paused, then continued with a smug tone, "All the herbal medicine merchants in H City follow the Wilder Group's lead. Cutting off Riley is just us playing along."
Barry's heart sank. He realized he'd been played, but it was too late now.
"If Mr. Benedict asks..." Barry hesitated, looking for some guidance.
There was a brief silence before a vague reply, "Just tell him the truth. If he's asking, it means he doesn't know what the Wilder Group's up to. Lay it out for him."
With that, the call ended abruptly before Barry could respond.
Barry broke out in a cold sweat. The other person didn't spell it out, but Barry wasn't dumb. He could tell this had been kept from Dalton from the start. Now he was caught in the middle and couldn't afford to piss off either side.
By the time his car pulled up to the Benedict estate, Barry still hadn't come up with a good excuse. He could only try to stay calm as he knocked on the villa door.
The butler opened the door and said respectfully, "Mr. Myers, Mr. Dalton Benedict and Mr. Daniel Benedict have been waiting for you inside for a while."
Hearing this, Barry's heart raced, and his legs felt like lead. He thought only Dalton was calling him in, but Daniel being involved too meant this was way more serious than he imagined. But he had no choice but to face it.
Barry followed the butler into the living room, keeping his head down.
For a long moment, no one spoke. Barry nervously glanced at the people on the sofa. Daniel was leaning on his cane, his face full of anger, glaring at him. Next to him, Dalton sat with a poker face, radiating intimidation.
Meeting their gaze, Barry couldn't help but shiver, stammering, "Mr. Dalton Benedict, Mr. Daniel Benedict..."
Dalton cut him off coldly, "From the look on your face, you should already know why I called you here."
Barry nodded awkwardly, "Yes... it's about the herbal supply for the research institute."
As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of someone slamming the table echoed in his ears. Barry's heart tightened, and he pressed his hands to his sides, not daring to move.
"Since you know, why did you go against my wishes?" Dalton glanced at the furious Daniel beside him and questioned coldly, "Barry, I've always trusted you, which is why I put you in charge of the herbal supplies. Now you've done this, how do you plan to explain it to me?"
Barry quickly admitted his mistake, "Mr. Dalton Benedict, I didn't think it through. I'll personally apologize to Dr. Monroe and arrange for the needed herbs to be delivered ASAP!"
Dalton's face remained stern, his tone filled with anger, "You think you can brush this off with 'I didn't think it through'?"
Barry had always been one of Dalton's trusted guys. So when he found out Barry had refused the research institute's request, Dalton's first thought was that Barry had been manipulated. He only intended to call him over to clear things up. But he hadn't expected Barry to face him with such an attitude.
Knowing full well why he was called over, yet still keeping quiet about who was behind it!
"Mr. Dalton Benedict, I..." Barry didn't know what to say. He was stuck. Both were his bosses, and he couldn't afford to piss off either. He thought he could take the blame himself, but he hadn't expected Dalton to be so determined to find out who had told him to do this.
