Chapter 285 Take Good Care of Your Injury

The next morning, Riley woke up with Donovan's trench coat over her.

She quickly realized Donovan had covered her when she fell asleep last night.

Riley sat up and looked around the hospital room for Donovan, but he was gone.

She felt a strange emptiness.

Just then, the door opened. Donovan walked in, looking tired in just a shirt.

Their eyes met, and Donovan's gaze darkened. His voice was hoarse, "You're awake?"

Riley nodded, hesitated, then got up and placed the trench coat over the little one on the bed.

Seeing this, warmth flashed in Donovan's eyes. He walked over, glancing at her bandaged wrist. "How's the injury? Need to change the dressing?"

Riley shook her head. "No need, I can handle it at home. The hospital's medicine isn't better than mine."

Donovan raised an eyebrow but nodded, remembering her profession and experience.

After checking her injury, they had nothing to say, making the air in the room awkward.

"If there's nothing else..."

Riley was about to leave when she heard the little one's soft voice, "Riley..."

It sounded like she was about to cry.

Riley's heart ached as she turned to the little one.

Maybe she dreamed about last night. Though still asleep, her face was tear-streaked and scrunched up.

"I'm here," Riley said, gently wiping away her tears.

The little one woke up crying and, seeing Riley, threw herself into her arms, sobbing.

Compared to last night, her cries were quieter, but Riley's heart still ached.

The little one must have been so scared she even dreamed about it.

After soothing her for a long time, Finley finally stopped crying and looked at Riley with tearful eyes.

Donovan saw the little one calling for Riley even in her sleep, his gaze darkening.

After talking to the little one, Donovan called the doctor to check on Finley.

Once confirmed she was okay, he handled the discharge papers.

As they left the hospital, the little one clung to Riley's hand, not wanting to let go.

Riley patted her head. "Take care. If you miss me, just call, okay?"

The little one nodded but still didn't want to let go.

Riley couldn't bear to make her.

Yesterday's events had really scared her, and Riley just wanted to be even better to her.

Donovan felt heartbroken too but knew Riley couldn't stay forever. He gently grabbed the little one's wrist. "Finley, let go of Riley. We need to go back; Grandpa and Grandma are worried."

Finley finally let go, her face full of reluctance.

Riley felt a bit dazed, thinking the little one's disappointed look was just like yesterday afternoon.

"Goodbye, Riley," Finley said softly, lowering her head.

Riley was stunned. Besides the dream talk, this was the first time Finley had spoken since last night.

Just to say goodbye.

Riley's heart melted. She said goodbye with a smile and left quickly, afraid if she looked any longer, she wouldn't be able to leave.
