Chapter 252 Don't Bother Riley Anymore
Finley wore a blue lace-trimmed top, a white long skirt, and a big red bow in her hair. With her rosy cheeks, she looked like a mini Snow White.
Everyone at the kindergarten knew she was Donovan's precious daughter.
As Finley clung tightly to Riley's skirt, the crowd couldn't help but observe the tender moment. Riley, who held a soft spot for Finley, felt a tinge of unease under the scrutiny of so many gazes and cast a glance towards Donovan, who was engrossed in polite conversation with a group of parents, seemingly oblivious to the scene unfolding.
Riley sighed, squatted down, and patted Finley's head. "How could I not like you? You're so well-behaved."
Finley sniffled and said in her sweet voice, "You haven't come recently. I miss you."
Riley's heart melted, wanting to hug Finley.
But with everyone watching, she just held Finley's little hand. "I've been busy with work. I just got back from a business trip."
Finley looked at her suspiciously. "Then why did you leave?"
Riley was speechless. She couldn't tell Finley it was because of Donovan.
After a brief pause without Riley's response, Finley's mouth pouted, eyes full of disappointment.
Riley felt guilty.
Just as she was unsure how to comfort her, a shadow fell over them.
Riley looked up.
Donovan had somehow appeared, looking down at her with an unreadable expression.
"Finley, Riley still has to take care of the boys. Don't bother her," Donovan said, bending down to take Finley's hand.
Finley dodged and moved closer to Riley, stubbornly saying, "I want Riley!"
Both Donovan and Riley stiffened.
People around them watched closely.
Riley's mind was in turmoil.
She had anticipated this scene but didn't know how to handle it.
She thought she should leave coldly.
But looking at Finley, she couldn't do it.
"If Ms. Monroe doesn't mind, why not stay for a while?" Donovan said, looking at Riley with an ambiguous expression.
Finley also looked at Riley with anticipation.
Riley hesitated but nodded.
Landon and Winston, nearby, looked at Donovan warily but also with some expectation.
Though they didn't like Donovan, this was their first class event with parents. They were excited.
Riley stood up, glancing around, but didn't hold Finley's hand.
Donovan understood, his eyes darkening slightly, and took Finley's hand.
This time, Finley didn't dodge, letting Donovan hold her hand, but her eyes stayed on Riley.
