Chapter 206 Make Things Clear
Catherine talked to Donovan and then immediately called the Sutton family when she got home.
Because of that news, Hollis didn't want to go to the office and hear the employees gossip about how well Donovan and Riley looked together in the photos, so she had been staying home these past two days.
When Catherine's phone rang for Alice, Hollis was sitting right next to her.
"I've already talked to Donovan. Don't worry; it won't happen again. Just wait for the engagement," Catherine's voice came through.
Alice glanced at Hollis, signaling her to take the call herself.
Hollis composed herself and thanked her sweetly, "Thank you, Auntie Catherine."
Hearing her voice, Catherine paused, recalling Donovan's words about his intention to break off their engagement, and felt a pang of guilt. "I'm sorry you've been wronged during this time."
Hollis's face looked unpleasant, but her words were still sensible. "It's okay. As long as I can be with Donovan, I can handle anything."
Catherine felt even more apologetic. "Don't worry. I only recognize you as my daughter-in-law. As for yesterday's news, you can rest assured that everyone will think the woman in the photos is you. No one will dare to say otherwise."
Hollis thanked her again.
After some small talk, they finally hung up the phone.
Hollis could finally feel at ease.
However, thinking about those two photos of Donovan and Riley being so close, she felt a surge of anger.
At Daniel's birthday party last time, Riley had already embarrassed her once.
This time, she ruined her mood again!
It seemed she had to teach Riley a good lesson and make her understand her place!
After thinking about it all night, early the next morning, Hollis waited punctually at the kindergarten gate.
Seeing Riley drop off the kids at the kindergarten and turn to get in her car, Hollis quickly followed her and got in.
Riley almost instinctively thought it was Donovan again, furrowing her brows as she glanced over. However, seeing the person sitting next to her, her face turned cold. "What do you mean by this?"
Hollis scoffed, "Nothing much, I just wanted to have a chat with you. I wonder if you are available?"
Riley could roughly guess what she wanted to talk about and frowned. "Sorry, I'm very busy."
"You're already refusing before you even know what I want to talk about. Do you perhaps feel guilty yourself?" Hollis sneered at her.
Hearing this, Riley's face stiffened, and she turned to meet Hollis's gaze. "I only have time at noon. Since you want to chat, you can pick the place, and I'll be there at noon."
She had refused initially because she felt she had already cleared things up with Donovan and didn't want to get involved in matters between Donovan and Hollis anymore.
But continuing to back down would only make Hollis hold an even stronger bias against her, leading to more trouble in the future.
It was better to clear things up once and for all.
Seeing Riley agree, Hollis didn't pester her further and left.
Watching her figure disappear from sight, Riley suppressed the turmoil in her heart, and drove towards the research institute.
The project was at a critical stage these past two days, and Riley was very busy in the morning.
Finally finishing her work, she checked her phone and saw that it was already past the time Hollis had mentioned.
Riley didn't dare delay any longer and quickly drove over.
