Chapter 294 Did She Cry a Lot?

Finley watched Riley walk away, tears streaming down her face.

The kids were shocked by how cold their mom was to Finley. After a moment, they ran over to comfort her.

"Don't cry, Finley. Mom's just busy. Once she's free, you can play with us again!" Winston said with a big smile.

Finley didn't move.

Landon pulled out a handkerchief to wipe her tears. "We'll take care of you at kindergarten. Mom likes you too, so don't be sad. If you keep crying, you'll get ugly, and Mom won't like that."

Finley's sobs slowed, but she still looked unsure.

Winston quickly added, "Yeah, Mom and we don't like ugly kids. So, no more crying, okay?"

Finally, Finley stopped crying.

Seeing the kids comfort Finley, Donovan's eyes softened. He stepped forward and thanked them. "Thanks for comforting Finley."

The kids didn't want to respond at first, but then they remembered they had driven away Donovan, making Finley cry. Feeling a bit guilty, they looked away and said, "We were just telling the truth, not just comforting her."

They knew Riley really did like Finley, but because of Donovan, she had to keep her distance.

Donovan smiled silently and took Finley's hand.

This time, she didn't pull away.

"Say goodbye to the boys," Donovan said gently.

Finley waved and choked out, "Landon, Winston, goodbye. I'll come back to play!"

The kids quickly smiled. "We'll be waiting for you!"

They walked Finley to the door and watched her leave, then went upstairs to find their mom.

Riley was in the study, lost in thought, her mind on Finley's sad face.

She felt regret. She had said kids were innocent, but because of adult issues, Finley had suffered.

She was so deep in thought she didn't notice the kids come in.

"Mom!" Landon and Winston walked over carefully, looking up at her. They knew rejecting Finley made her sad too.

Riley snapped out of it and forced a smile, patting their heads. "Finley left?"

The kids nodded.

Riley was silent for a moment, then asked, "Did Finley cry a lot when she left?"

The kids nodded again.

Riley felt a wave of guilt.

She wanted to be good to Finley but ended up making her cry.

"But we cheered her up!" the kids said, trying to make her feel better.

Riley smiled with relief, hugging them. "I'm so glad I have you two, or I'd feel so guilty."

The kids hugged her back. "Finley said she'll come back to play. She really likes you."

Riley was so moved she couldn't speak.
