Chapter 104 Hollis Takes Finley to School
Donovan remained silent throughout.
It wasn't until the two finished speaking that he calmly said, “You're overthinking it. I have no intention of bringing Riley back.”
At least not now.
While his parents were talking, Donovan had been thinking about his recent interactions with Riley, and he concluded that their involvement during these days was mostly because of Finley.
Thinking about this, Donovan felt somewhat ironic.
From Riley's attitude when they first met, if it hadn't been for Finley, Riley probably would have avoided him.
The concerns his parents had were even less likely to happen.
Upon hearing Donovan's words, Catherine's expression eased slightly. “That's good then. What about Hollis? When do you plan to get married? If you marry soon, Finley will have someone to take care of her.”
Donovan frowned and declined, “Compared to Riley, I'm even more hesitant to entrust Finley to Hollis. Finley has always strongly resisted Hollis, so I still need to reconsider her marriage.”
Catherine shrugged it off. “Finley's rejection of her isn't just because you've been reluctant to accept her? If you had married Hollis earlier and let her spend more time with Finley, they would eventually develop a bond. Besides, over the years, Hollis has been very devoted to Finley, and we've all seen it.”
At these words, Donovan slightly frowned in annoyance. “Let's talk about this later. I'm tired.”
Over the years, even though Hollis had always been friendly in their presence and treated Finley well, Donovan didn't believe Finley would reject Hollis without reason, nor did he have any feelings for Hollis.
The constant mention of Hollis by his mother now only irritated him.
As her remaining words were cut off by Donovan, Catherine sighed, “We're not pressuring you. Just think about it. In the meantime, let us take care of Finley.”
With that, she called for Auntie Cole to bring Finley downstairs, smiling, and reaching out her hand toward Finley. Unaware of the adult's conflict, Finley obediently nestled into her grandmother's arms.
“Sweet Finley, would you like to come and play at your grandparents' house for a couple of days?” Catherine lovingly pinched Finley's chubby cheeks.
Finley blinked in confusion and instinctively looked at her father.
Donovan's expression hardened. “Mom, Finley is fine at home, and I can take care of her.”
Catherine was displeased, “You know why I'm taking Finley with me! Besides, your father and I miss her too. What's wrong with her coming to spend a couple of days with us?”
Edward interjected solemnly, “I heard Finley was recently ill, and you've been busy. Let us take care of her for now.”
Upon hearing his father speak, Donovan couldn't help but feel a headache coming on.
He knew his mother intended to prevent Finley from being around Riley. Yet, he couldn't argue with his father's words.
As Donovan remained silent, Catherine stood up abruptly, carrying Finley, and left decisively. Donovan didn't say anything. He just thought he would retrieve Finley in a couple of days.
While with her grandparents, Finley behaved well, had dinner, and obediently went to sleep.
Catherine then called Hollis, asking her to come over in the morning to take Finley to kindergarten. Catherine always believed that Finley's lack of fondness for Hollis was due to their limited time together.
The following daybreak, Hollis arrived promptly, greeted Catherine and Edward, then reached out to take Finley's hand. Having just finished the breakfast, Finley saw Hollis approaching and her little face falling. She shrank back when Hollis reached out her hand, showing strong resistance toward Hollis.
“Be a good girl, Finley. Auntie Hollis will take you to kindergarten. If you don't hurry, you'll be late,” Catherine patiently coaxed.
Hearing this, Finley hesitated for a moment, thinking she would see her two little brothers at kindergarten, and reluctantly got into the car.
