Chapter 58 Can't Be Friends with Them
Earlier, Riley had just intended to make a phone call to the research institute to let them know that she would be late.
However, the person who answered the phone happened to be Deacon, and before she could say anything, Deacon started talking about a project they were rushing to complete in the past few days, including some data that he couldn't understand.
Riley then discussed it with him.
Unexpectedly, once they started talking about work, they forgot about the time.
She remembered to hang up the phone because she vaguely heard Donovan's voice coming from downstairs.
In the end, she quickly reached a conclusion and hung up the phone, rushing downstairs.
She almost forgot that Donovan was coming later.
The two kids were still downstairs with Finley.
If Donovan were to meet them...
The thought of what might happen made Riley extremely flustered.
However, by the time she came downstairs and wanted to stop them from meeting, it was already too late.
Just as Riley turned the corner of the stairs, she saw a man standing next to the carpet. In front of him, three children were tidying up the LEGOs on the carpet, almost finishing the job.
As if hearing her coming downstairs, the man turned around and looked at her, his face indifferent.
When their eyes met, Riley's expression couldn't help but stiffen. She pinched her palm to try to stay calm, and casually greeted the man, "You're here."
Donovan coldly nodded his head, but his gaze was still fixed on her, with an unclear, gloomy emotion in his eyes.
Riley couldn't help but feel guilty when she thought about the two children who were already exposed to Donovan. She asked nervously, "So, should you take Finley home now, or..."
She was afraid that Donovan had discovered the children's true identities and wanted to sit down and talk with her.
However, Donovan thought she was politely asking him to leave. His face turned slightly colder. "We'll go now. Don't worry, I won't stay at your place for too long."
After saying that, he turned to look at Finley, who was still slowly tidying up the LEGOs. "Are you done collecting? It's time to go back."
Finley originally didn't want to leave and deliberately moved slowly while tidying up. However, Landon and Winston were quick, and they had almost finished tidying up the LEGOs.
Upon hearing his dad's urging, Finley reluctantly stood up, his watery eyes looking at Riley not far away, full of reluctance.
In Riley's softened gaze towards the little girl, Donovan was present, making it difficult for her to say comforting words in light of what happened yesterday.
"Say thank you to Auntie and then come back with me," Donovan's tone was cold.
After hearing this, Finley's expression softened even more, eagerly looking at Riley, hoping that the beautiful aunt would invite her to come again next time.
However, after waiting for a while, she didn't hear a single word.
Finley dropped her eyes, feeling disappointed.
"Auntie has to go to work, we shouldn't bother her," Donovan urged.
Finley reluctantly picked up the book and started writing on it.
A "thank you" took her quite a while to finish writing.
When she finally finished writing, she held it up towards Donovan.
"Daddy, can I come to play with Auntie and the little brothers next time? I want to be friends with Landon and Winston."
Several people saw this line of words.
Riley and the two children couldn't bear it, but because of Donovan's expression, they didn't say anything in the end.
Donovan saw their reaction and then saw his daughter relying on them, gritting his teeth, "No."
As soon as he finished speaking, Finley's expression instantly fell, her eyes turned red, and she silently sobbed, looking very sad.
