Chapter 119: What Are You Going to Do to Mommy?
Upon hearing Riley's reply, Donovan's eyes narrowed slightly. He gazed at her face for a while but couldn't discern any signs of insincerity.
Donovan withdrew his gaze, feeling a wave of shock followed by overwhelming confusion.
Riley actually thought Finley was Hollis's child!
He had always believed that this woman had callously abandoned Finley. Seeing her act so unfamiliar with Finley after returning to the country, he thought she was cold-hearted.
But Riley's words just now clearly indicated that she had no idea Finley was her biological daughter.
'What on earth is going on? Or is she such a good actress that she even fooled me?' he thought.
Donovan felt a wave of confusion.
After some time, he composed himself and tightly grasped the woman's slender wrist. With a serious expression, he questioned her carefully, "When did I ever say that Finley is Hollis's child?”
Riley's wrist hurt, but her attention was drawn to his words, filled with surprise and doubt.
Finley wasn't Hollis's child!
No wonder she didn't see Hollis when Finley was sick that day.
But from what she had seen, besides Hollis, there were no other women close to Donovan.
'Who else could be Finley's mother?'
Riley almost couldn't help but ask.
"Mommy!" Not far away, the voices of two little ones came over. "We finally found you! Are you okay?"
As he spoke, the two young children both noticed Donovan standing across from their mother, still gripping her wrist.
Upon seeing this, they exchanged a glance and hurriedly made their way to their mother's side with their small legs.
"Mommy, don't be afraid, we'll protect you!" Winston spread his arms to shield Riley. When he looked up and saw Donovan's face, he was stunned.
Landon also walked to the side, holding his mommy's hand, glaring fiercely at the person opposite.
Upon seeing that it was Donovan, the child's face tensed up. He pursed his lips and approached Donovan, using all his strength to push him. "Let go of my mommy! What are you going to do to her?"
Donovan observed the child's angry expression, frowned, and released his hand, explaining in a deep voice, "I just wanted to ask your mommy for help. I wasn't planning to harm her.”
Landon still stared at him with a guarded look.
Winston turned around and took his mommy's hand, shaking it. "Mommy, are you okay? Did he bully you? We will protect you!"
Riley was still reeling from the shock of the situation with Finley. Upon hearing Winston's words, she absentmindedly shook her head. "It's nothing.”
Seeing his mommy's dazed look, Winston was full of worry and glared at Donovan.
'Not only did he to bully us, but also now he's bullying mommy when we're not around!' he thought.
Winston thought that when he grew up, he would definitely stand up for his mommy!
The atmosphere between them was a bit tense for a moment.
Even though Harper was displeased with Donovan, she stayed composed, realizing that it wasn't the appropriate setting for a conversation.
Stepping forward, she gently pulled Landon back and addressed everyone, "If there's something to discuss, let's do it outside." She then comfortingly patted Riley's back and said, "If you're feeling scared, we'll stop playing. Let's leave together.”
Riley finally came to her senses, didn't look at Donovan, and silently nodded, following Harper out.
Winston held his mommy's hand tightly, afraid she would be scared again, protecting Riley like a little knight all the way.
