Chapter 389 Still Feeling Uneasy
Early the next morning, Riley was at the research institute, troubled by the issue of the suppliers for medicinal materials.
She'd been reaching out to everyone she could think of across the country, but it was a dead end. Most folks had no connections in H City, and even if they did, they weren't about to take on the Wilder Group for her. For days, Riley had been at her wit's end.
Just when she was about to give up, there was a knock on the office door. Deacon walked in with Dalton.
"Dr. Monroe, Mr. Benedict is here," Deacon announced.
Riley looked up, surprised to see Dalton. The Benedict Group's medicinal supplies had already been delivered, so what was he doing here?
"Dr. Monroe," Dalton greeted her with a smile, glancing around her office. He was curious if there were any photos of the kids' father, but all he saw was a picture of Riley with the two kids on her desk.
Dalton casually looked away and took a seat across from her.
Deacon, knowing why Dalton was there, didn't leave and sat down on the sofa.
"Mr. Benedict, is there something you need?" Riley asked cautiously. She was a bit tense, worried that Dalton might also cave to the Wilder Group.
Dalton noticed her concern and smiled reassuringly, "After I got home yesterday, my grandfather gave me an earful, saying my compensation to you wasn't enough. I thought about it all night and tried to come up with something better."
Riley was momentarily stunned.
Dalton continued, "I'm in the pharmaceutical industry too, and I know how much a lab like yours goes through in supplies. My company's supplies can only cover your short-term needs. In the long run, the Benedict Group alone won't cut it."
Riley frowned slightly and interjected, "You're right. I've been looking for other suppliers these past few days but haven't had any luck. Mr. Benedict, do you have any solutions?"
Dalton nodded, "To be honest, while the Benedict Group isn't as big as the Wilder Group in H City, we still have a lot of pull in the pharmaceutical industry. Many suppliers in H City got their start with help from the Benedict Group, so if I ask, they'll at least consider it."
Riley was moved but still hesitant, "Isn't this too risky for the Benedict Group? Your company has always had a good relationship with the Wilder Group. If Mrs. Wilder finds out you're doing this..."
Riley appreciated Dalton's help but had to think about the Benedict Group's position.
If Catherine found out that Dalton was helping her and it strained the relationship between the two families, she wouldn't know how to make it up to Dalton.
Dalton smiled confidently, "I've thought about that too. Dr. Monroe, you can relax. The suppliers I'm contacting are big players in H City and totally trustworthy. The Wilder Group won't find out, and even if they do, they might not care."
With Donovan backing him, even if Catherine found out, she might not be able to do anything.
Riley didn't know Donovan was involved. Hearing Dalton's response, she still felt uneasy. No one understood Catherine's hostility toward her better than she did.
She was already very grateful that the Benedict Group could continue their previous contract and didn't want to drag them into more trouble.
