Chapter 74 Not Driving Them Away

Donovan furrowed his brow.

He didn't expect the little one to be this angry.

Upon hearing Auntie's words, Donovan nodded, approached the door, and knocked, "Finley, open the door; Daddy wants to talk to you."

As the words fell, there was a muffled sound on the door.

Clearly, Finley had directly thrown something against the door to show her resistance.

Donovan paused for a moment, then spoke again, his tone even softer, "What do you want Daddy to do? Open the door and tell Daddy, let's discuss it properly, okay?"

There was another crisp sound on the door.

Auntie saw Finley like this for the first time, thought about Finley's situation, and feared that something might happen inside. She quickly said, "Mr. Wilder, maybe we should just go in directly. Otherwise, I'm worried about Finley..."

Donovan hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed.

Soon, Auntie brought a spare key, and the two entered the room.

Upon entering, Finley was startled by the mess that filled the room. Dolls that Finley cherished were scattered all over the floor, and near the entrance were several delicate music boxes, two of which had cracks.

It was evident that the objects that had crashed against the door were these two music boxes.

Amidst the chaos, Finley curled up in a corner, eyes vacant, tears uncontrollably streaming down, with two somewhat ugly dolls beside her that they had never seen before.

Upon seeing the two individuals enter, the little one unconsciously shrank back, refusing to meet their gaze, head lowered.

Witnessing the child's reaction, Donovan felt a pang of heartache, regretfully approaching to comfort Finley by trying to embrace him.

Sensing his approach, Finley suddenly raised her head, eyes filled with resistance, hands pushing against the ground, frantically shrinking back.

Seeing this, Donovan paused and said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m sorry, okay?”

Finley, however, did not seem to hear him at all. She pressed her entire body against the wall, slanting away to avoid his gaze. Hugging her knees, she buried her head deep in between.

Donovan and Auntie couldn’t see Finley’s expression, only how her body shivered as she sobbed.

Donovan was at a loss.

Feeling sorry for Finley, Auntie stepped forward and said, “Please, let me try.”

With that, she cautiously approached Finley and reached out her arm.

This time, Finley didn’t dodge.

heaving a sigh of relief, Auntie lifted Finley into her arms with ease, patting her back to comfort her while asking, “Finley, what’s going on? Can you tell me? We’re you bullied in school?”

Finley only carried on sobbing, not reacting at all.

Puzzled as to what she should do, Auntie could only continue comforting Finley.

“Is it because those twins didn’t go to school today?” Donovan suddenly asked with a deep voice.

Hearing this, Finley’s eyes lit up as she tilted her head.

Auntie instantly gave Donovan a look, hinting at him not to upset Finley further.

Donovan sighed. Never would he have expected Finley to be so dependent on Landon and Winston. Or was this connection because they shared the same father?

“I see. You don’t want them to leave the school,” said Donovan.

Finley finally looked at him with an aggrieved expression. Donovan had no choice but to compromise. “Alright. I promise you I won’t chase them away.”

However, Finley still fixed her gaze on him, her eyes filled with dissatisfaction.

Understanding what she meant, Donovan said gently, “They didn't go to school today because they took leave, that's all. The teacher hasn't told them about expelling them.”
