Chapter 230 How Do You Want Me to Compensate
Donovan took a sip of his coffee expressionlessly, trying to hide his displeasure. He didn't want Riley to just sit there in silence; he wanted her to thank him or at least acknowledge his efforts.
Sure, the whole "business loss" thing was just a pretext, but did Riley really think a cup of coffee was enough to make up for it?
Riley put her cup down and stared out the window, clearly not in the mood to talk. She wasn't sure what else there was to say, and honestly, she didn't want to get more tangled up with Donovan. This coffee was just for closure.
The alcohol was hitting her hard. She kept glancing at Donovan's cup, hoping he'd finish so she could leave. But his cup was still almost full.
"Mr. Wilder, why aren't you drinking?" she asked, pulling her gaze from the window.
Donovan's eyes were dark, and he smirked, "Drinking it like this, it doesn't taste good."
Riley frowned, rubbing her temple. "Then how do you want to drink it, Mr. Wilder?"
Another wave of dizziness hit her. She closed her eyes for a moment, then tried to look at Donovan as naturally as possible.
Donovan was about to say something, but seeing her pale face, he frowned. "Are you feeling unwell?"
Riley pressed her lips together. "Just a bit drunk, it's fine. Mr. Wilder, how do you want me to compensate you? The Wilder Group handles big business, and I'm sure today's coffee isn't enough."
Seeing her pale face and hearing her sarcastic tone, Donovan's expression changed. He didn't say anything and called the waiter to settle the bill.
Riley wanted to insist on paying, but Donovan had already taken care of it.
The waiter gave them a look that seemed to say, 'Why deny being a couple when it's so obvious?'
Riley's headache worsened under the waiter's gaze.
"Where are you staying? I'll take you back," Donovan said, his face serious but his actions gentle.
Without giving her a chance to refuse, he helped her up.
As soon as she stood, another wave of dizziness hit her, and she missed her chance to refuse.
By the time she recovered, Donovan had already supported her to the entrance, and everyone in the coffee shop was watching.
Feeling weak and not wanting to make a scene, Riley let Donovan help her into the car.
Paxton was waiting in the car. "Mr. Wilder, where to?" he asked.
Donovan looked at Riley.
Riley pressed her temple and softly said, "I have to go back to the dinner. There are still many seniors waiting for me."
She tried to open the door, but Donovan grabbed her wrist. "I'll take you back, or you can rest at my place. You choose. My hotel is nearby."
Riley frowned, then sat back down and told Paxton the name of her hotel.
Paxton nodded and started the car slowly.
"Drive carefully," Donovan ordered.
Paxton quickly agreed and drove cautiously.
The two in the back stayed silent.
