Chapter 386 Would I Care About This?

Paxton took a second to shake off the shock before dialing Donovan back.

In the club's private room, Donovan hadn't said a word since hanging up, and Dalton just kept munching on his now-cold food.

When Donovan's phone lit up, Dalton's eyes darted over.

Donovan picked up the call in a flash.

"Mr. Wilder, I found out," Paxton's voice was cautious.

Donovan's voice was low, "Who did it?"

Paxton hesitated, "It was... Mrs. Wilder."

Donovan just closed his eyes for a moment, not looking surprised at all. From the moment Dalton brought it up, Donovan had a hunch. He had Paxton check it out just to be sure.

"Got it," Donovan said, hanging up with a blank face.

The room was filled with dead silence.

Dalton was about to say something when Donovan's voice cut in. "When did you find out?"

Dalton was caught off guard but answered honestly, "Yesterday."

As soon as he said it, the atmosphere around him seemed to grow even colder.

Dalton quickly added, "Yesterday, my company got dragged into it too. I was swamped dealing with stuff and didn't know how to tell you. That's why I waited until today. But don't worry, the Benedict Group's got enough medicinal supplies for the Virus Research Institute."

Donovan closed his eyes a bit, trying to keep his cool. This whole mess was really his fault.

He knew Catherine couldn't stand Riley and had seen them clash at the café last time. He should've known Catherine would go after Riley. He should've had someone keep an eye on both of them to stop Catherine and keep Riley safe.

But he'd been so caught up with work. When he got home, he stayed by Finley's side and totally ignored Riley's situation.

He never thought Catherine would act so fast!

"And I didn't think you'd be totally in the dark about this," Dalton added slowly. He always figured Catherine used the Wilder Group's clout to handle it, and that Donovan would be in the loop. If Mia hadn't pointed it out this morning, he wouldn't have thought to tell Donovan.

Hearing this, Donovan's face got even darker. Riley must've already figured out it was the Wilder Group. She probably thought he knew about it too. She'd been avoiding him before this, and now, who knew what she would think of him.

"The company's been crazy busy," Donovan said shortly.

Dalton nodded, thinking Catherine must've kept Donovan in the dark too.

Feeling a bit guilty, Dalton said, "If I'd known, I would've told you yesterday."

Donovan stayed calm and said, "This stays between us. My mom won't know you told me."

From Dalton's view, Donovan totally got why he waited to tell him. With their families being so close, Dalton telling him was like going against Catherine.

Dalton frowned a bit, "You think I care about that? If I didn't see how you treat Dr. Monroe, I wouldn't have come all this way."
