Chapter 286 This Is Your Attitude
After Riley left, Donovan took Finley back to the Wilder Estate.
When they got home, Catherine and Edward were already in the living room, with Hollis looking pitiful beside them.
As soon as they walked in, Hollis jumped up. "Donovan, is Finley okay?" She squatted down to check on Finley.
Finley immediately hid behind Donovan, clutching his clothes and refusing to look at Hollis.
"Finley, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you," Hollis said, trying to grab Finley's hand.
Finley, like a scared kitten, slapped her hand away, clearly upset. She blamed Hollis for Riley distancing herself.
Hollis, not giving up, glanced at Catherine and Edward and tried again. "Finley, don't be afraid. I just want to check your injuries."
Before Finley could react, Hollis grabbed her wrist, trying to pull her closer. Finley's eyes filled with panic, and she burst into tears.
Everyone turned to look.
Donovan didn't expect such resistance from Finley or Hollis's persistence. Seeing Finley trembling and crying, Donovan's face turned cold. "Back off now!"
Startled, Hollis let go. Despite her guilt-ridden face, a trace of displeasure flickered in her eyes. "It's my fault. I knew Finley hadn't forgiven me, but I just wanted to care for her. I should have considered her feelings."
She stood up and looked cautiously at Donovan. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize Finley hated me so much. I'll leave to avoid upsetting her."
Hollis turned to Catherine. "Auntie, I'll go now. I'll come back another day to see Finley."
"Donovan, what are you doing?" Catherine snapped, seeing her son lose his temper at Hollis. She quickly grabbed Hollis's wrist. "Stay here. I know you meant no harm."
Hollis's eyes welled up, and she stood beside Catherine, looking on the verge of tears.
"Hollis feels guilty about Finley getting lost. She stayed with us all night without sleep and came here to apologize. Is this how you treat her?" Catherine scolded Donovan.
Donovan frowned, his eyes cold. "She should feel guilty."
If Hollis hadn't upset Finley and failed to watch her, none of this would have happened. Thinking of Riley and Finley's injuries, Donovan's gaze at Hollis grew even colder.
