Chapter 421 Riley Was Terrified
For a moment, the plane was in chaos, with cries, screams, and frantic questions drowning out the announcements.
Riley was facing this kind of chaos for the first time, and though she felt a wave of unease, she managed to keep it together.
But the noise only made her anxiety worse; the turbulence wasn't helping either.
Suddenly, someone shouted, "My kid is waiting for me at home!"
Those words hit Riley like a ton of bricks. Her eyes widened in shock, and her anxiety spiked.
Hearing that made Riley think of Landon and Winston, who were still at home waiting for her.
She had selfishly kept the truth about their origins from them. What would they do if something happened to her?
The thought made Riley's face go pale, and she started to panic, struggling to catch her breath.
Just when she thought she might pass out, a large hand grabbed hers firmly.
Riley managed to pull herself together a bit and heard Donovan's deep voice in her ear, "Don't worry, it's just turbulence. It'll pass soon. Breathe."
Donovan's voice had a calming effect. Riley felt her breathing start to even out, though she was still shaking.
Seeing Riley so freaked out, Donovan's anger melted away, replaced by concern.
"I'm here. We're gonna be fine, don't be scared," Donovan reassured her.
Riley nodded, still uneasy, and then she looked frantically towards the economy class, whispering, "Landon... Winston..."
Donovan listened closely and finally caught what she was saying.
Seeing Riley so scared and still thinking about Landon and Winston, Donovan felt a mix of sympathy towards her but frustration towards their biological father.
'What kind of jerk leaves a woman with two kids?' Donovan thought angrily.
Despite his anger, Donovan's voice stayed calm and strong, "Landon and Winston are waiting for you at home. You're gonna get back to them safely. Don't overthink it, just breathe and relax."
Riley tried to follow his advice, but her body wasn't cooperating.
The chaos was making it hard for her to focus, and the flight attendants' reassurances weren't helping.
Donovan glanced in the direction she was looking and understood her fear. His eyes darkened, and he spoke softly in her ear.
"Ignore them. Listen to me. Air turbulence isn't a big deal. We're gonna be fine. They're scared because they don't get it."
Riley's attention slowly shifted to him, and the noise started to fade.
Seeing her calm down a bit, Donovan let out a quiet sigh of relief. The noise outside continued, so he kept talking to her, holding her hand tightly to give her strength.
Gradually, Riley started to grip his hand back, even squeezing harder.
Feeling her grip, a strange look flashed in Donovan's eyes, and he tightened his hold to comfort her.
Riley appeared terrified and clutched his hand tightly to calm her fear. Donovan didn't pull away, even anticipating her reaction when she realized they were holding hands.
