Chapter 433 The Cooperation Went Smoothly
On the way, Donovan couldn't shake off Riley's harsh words from earlier.
He thought that bringing Finley to see Riley might soften her up, but he was mistaken. Even with Finley visibly concerned about her, Riley remained cold and even told him not to bring Finley to see her again.
Donovan just couldn't wrap his head around why Riley was so dead set against seeing him.
By the time he got to the office, he still had that grim look on his face.
"Mr. Wilder," Paxton greeted him with respect. "Mr. Benedict is waiting in your office."
Donovan snapped out of his thoughts, nodded, and headed into the office, Paxton trailing behind him.
As soon as he walked in, he saw Dalton chilling on the sofa with a document next to him.
Dalton picked up the document, smiled, and sat down in the chair across from Donovan's desk, raising an eyebrow. "Why are you so late today?"
Donovan frowned a bit. "I took Finley to school."
Dalton nodded. He then handed over the document and dove into discussing the project with Donovan.
Their companies had always worked well together, and this time was no different. After a quick chat, they nailed down the project.
Dalton, having gotten what he came for, didn't leave right away. Instead, he brought up Riley, "By the way, I got a call from S City. They said the deal with Dr. Monroe is done. Seems like it went pretty smoothly."
He was clearly trying to take some credit in front of Donovan.
Mentioning Riley made Donovan think of her earlier words, and his face darkened.
Dalton noticed Donovan's unexpected reaction and frowned. "Did something happen between you two?"
Before Donovan could answer, Dalton gave him some advice, "Everyone knows how you treated Dr. Monroe back then. If you want to keep her around now, you need to be patient. Plus, she's Finley's mom. You gotta go easy on her."
Donovan's eyes darkened, and he just said, "Got it."
Dalton, a bit taken aback by the short response, asked, "What do you mean by that?"
Donovan glanced at him. "I mean, I've already known Riley's deal went very smoothly."
Dalton sighed, realizing his earlier words were pointless. Then he suddenly caught on to what Donovan had said and looked confused, "How do you know?"
The herbal suppliers in S City were Dalton's responsibility, and Riley wouldn't have told Donovan about it.
Dalton eyed Donovan suspiciously. Was Donovan keeping tabs on Riley?
Donovan said calmly, "I also went to S City recently and just got back yesterday."
Dalton was stunned. The timing matched up with Riley's trip.
And he remembered Donovan asking about Riley's schedule to S City a few days ago.
If Donovan had gone to S City after learning about Riley's trip, it all made sense.
Plus, it meant Donovan must have been at the banquet the night before last.
