Chapter 56 Don't Want to Go Back
Donovan collected his thoughts and followed Landon into the villa.
As soon as he stepped inside, he saw Finley sitting on the carpet in the living room, engrossed in playing with LEGOs. Next to her was a little boy who looked exactly like the child who had opened the door for him.
Apparently, these were the twins.
Donovan's gaze darkened, trying his best not to look at these two children, his sight scanning the living room.
He didn't see Riley's figure.
"Your father has arrived," Landon walked in and went straight to Finley, his friendly attitude from earlier gone as he coldly called her name.
Upon hearing this, Finley reluctantly stopped her movements and looked up at Donovan, who was standing nearby.
After just one glance, she immediately unwillingly averted her gaze and lowered her head to write in her book.
In the living room, the three remaining people's gazes were all on Finley.
Landon and Winston were also reluctant to leave Finley, but since her father had come, they had no reason to let her stay.
Donovan could guess what this little girl was writing, his brows furrowing deeper.
Not long after, Finley held up her book.
"I don't want to go back yet."
Just as he had thought.
Donovan's brows furrowed even deeper, and his tone carried reproach, "Finley Wilder, you didn't even say anything and ran out of the house without permission. Don't you think you should give me an explanation? This is the second time this month. Why did you run away from home?"
Finley stubbornly met his gaze and then lowered her head to write in the book, "I like Auntie and I like Landon and Winston. I want to be their friend!"
Upon seeing her response, Donovan felt a touch of irony in his heart. He glanced at the two children and said sternly, "You may like them, but have you ever asked if they like you? Running over to someone else's house like this is rude and disrespectful."
Finley pursed her lips and cautiously looked at Landon and Winston beside her.
She also knew that coming over so early in the morning would disturb them.
However, she really liked them, and her father didn't allow her to play with them.
Moreover, they had exchanged gifts and the older brothers had invited her to play LEGO with them. They should like her too, right?
Meeting Finley's pleading gaze, Winston couldn't help but soften his heart. He put down the LEGO in his hand and said seriously, "She didn't disturb us! She was just playing LEGO with us earlier. We had fun!"
Hearing Winston speaking up for her, Finley smiled and turned her head defiantly towards her own father.
Donovan's expression appeared somewhat complicated.
Meanwhile, Landon's face turned slightly serious as he leaned closer to his younger brother and pulled him gently.
Winston turned his head, looking puzzled, and met his older brother's warning gaze, suddenly realizing something.
That's right! Although they really liked Finley, they couldn't show it in front of this person!
Realizing this, Winston immediately closed his mouth and used his eyes to express his discontent.
The interaction between the two children was clearly observed by Donovan.
Donovan didn't know what they were thinking and just thought that he had scared them. He furrowed his brows, fell silent for a moment, and then his expression eased slightly.
Although these two were the children of that woman and another man, they were still young. Even if he was dissatisfied, he shouldn't show it in front of the children.
"Anyway, Finley came to your house so early, it must have caused you trouble. Thank you for playing with her," Donovan said in a calm tone.
The two children nodded coldly.
Then, the living room fell into silence.
After a while, Donovan sighed helplessly, pressed his eyebrows, and said in a deep voice, "Where's your mommy?"
Although he had Finley at home, he was still not good at dealing with children.
