Chapter 335 Unable to Defend Herself
By the time Catherine left the hospital, it was already super late. Even though she was fuming, she figured she'd head back to the Wilder mansion first. This time, she was gonna get some answers from Riley and give her a piece of her mind!
But how she was gonna talk to Riley? Yeah, she needed to think that one through.
Catherine spent almost the whole night stewing over it. She didn't catch a wink of sleep. Bright and early the next morning, Catherine scarfed down a quick breakfast and told the driver to take her straight to Riley's place.
Riley was chillin' with the kids, having breakfast. Winston was almost back to his old self after taking his meds and was munching away happily.
Seeing Winston all lively again, Riley let out a secret sigh of relief. She had plans to take the kids to the research institute after breakfast, but then, surprise surprise, an uninvited guest showed up.
When the doorbell rang, the kids were still eating, and Riley got up to answer it. Seeing who it was, Riley's heart sank a bit. She turned back and told Sophie, "I'm stepping out for a bit. Keep an eye on the kids, will ya?"
Sophie nodded.
Landon and Winston didn't see who was at the door and just thought their mom was heading to work, so they sensibly said their goodbyes. Riley gave the kids a casual smile, then turned back, her face turning cold. "Mrs. Wilder, if you got something to say, let's take it outside."
Catherine's vibe screamed bad news, and Riley didn't want the kids caught up in it.
Catherine shot her a disdainful look, spun around, and got into the car without a word. Riley hesitated for a sec and then followed.
The car pulled up at a café near her place. During the ride, Catherine still had that stern look and didn't say a peep to her. Riley could totally feel the icy vibes coming off her. It was pretty clear she was here because of Donovan.
Once they sat down in the café, Catherine finally broke the silence, "You know why I'm here, don't you?"
Riley pressed her lips into a thin line, looking at her calmly, basically admitting it.
"Six years ago, you bailed on the Wilder family without a word, leaving just a divorce agreement, making us look like fools. I was ready to let it go, but you just couldn't stay away, could you? You came back and got tangled up with Donovan again." Catherine's tone was ice-cold. "I've told you before, our family won't accept someone like you! I warned you once, but what did you do? Just ignored me? After my warning, you still clung to Donovan?"
Riley frowned a bit. "Look, my only dealings with Mr. Wilder are because of the kids. You don't want me around him, and I don't want any drama either. Why would I cling to him?"
"So, you're saying Donovan's clinging to you?" Catherine sneered. "Even if that's true, you should know your place. Donovan's got a fiancée, and his future wife ain't gonna be you. I'll never let him marry you!"
Riley had seen this coming and wasn't too shocked by her words.
Then Catherine went on, "Before, because of the kids, I turned a blind eye to your interactions. But this time, you dragged Hollis into it, and that's something I can't let slide. Hollis got hurt saving me and was just about better, but you got her hurt again. Riley, a woman as toxic as you, I can't let you near Donovan anymore."
Hearing this, Riley's expression shifted a bit. Hollis got hurt again? Was it because of last night?
Riley knew it was all a setup by Hollis, but she couldn't defend herself now. Seeing her silence, Catherine thought she was admitting it, and her expression grew even colder. "So, you'd better watch yourself, or I won't hesitate to send you back to where you came from!"
