Chapter 244 A Hint of Sarcasm
Riley didn't lift the blanket until the plane landed. She sat up calmly, her eyes clear.
Donovan glanced at her, not surprised by her composure. He felt a bit of self-mockery but stayed silent.
Given his current attitude, Riley was already keeping her distance. If he pushed too hard, she might vanish again, like six years ago.
Having finally found her, Donovan didn't want to scare her off.
He stayed put next to her, and Riley just frowned without saying anything.
They waited until most passengers had left before Donovan finally stood up.
They disembarked one after the other. Adam and Paxton were already waiting outside.
Adam had seen Donovan sitting next to Riley on the plane but couldn't do anything since it had already taken off.
Now, Adam greeted Donovan politely and turned to Riley. "You didn't drive. Let me take you home."
Riley smiled and agreed. "Thanks."
She acted like Donovan wasn't even there and walked towards Adam.
Seeing Riley, who had been indifferent to him the whole flight, now smiling at another man, Donovan felt annoyed and grabbed her wrist.
Riley's smile faded as she turned to Donovan. "Mr. Wilder, do you need something?"
Donovan stared into her eyes, seeing only detachment and annoyance.
Realizing this, he tightened his grip. "I'll take you."
Riley coldly smiled. "No need, Mr. Wilder. You're busy. I don't want to waste your time. Besides, I'm closer to Adam, so it's no trouble for me to ask for his help."
Donovan's face turned cold.
Though Riley kept saying they were just strangers, this was the first time she mentioned being closer to another man in front of him.
Riley ignored his changing expressions, glanced at his hand still gripping her wrist, and noticed people watching.
"Thanks for the offer, Mr. Wilder. If there's nothing else, please let go. I don't want any rumors, and I don't want Miss Sutton to misunderstand."
At the mention of Hollis, Donovan's grip loosened.
Because of Hollis, his mother had already caused trouble for Riley.
Donovan didn't want to add more problems to her life.
Riley, however, thought he was considering his engagement to Hollis, feeling a bit ironic.
If he still cared about Hollis, why did he keep bothering her?
Riley didn't want to think further and just took advantage of the opportunity to shake off his hand and walk to Adam. "Let's go."
Adam gave Donovan a slight nod and led Riley away.
Watching them leave together, Donovan's mood darkened.
Paxton waited silently, watching Riley get into Adam's car and glancing back at Donovan, feeling nervous.
After a while, once Adam's car was out of sight, Paxton cautiously spoke, "Mr. Wilder, we should go too."
Donovan's eyes were dark as he coldly responded.
