Chapter 363 It's Clearly an Excuse
Riley couldn't shake the memory of her last visit to the café. Catherine had laid it out plain and simple; if Riley kept hanging out with Donovan, there'd be consequences.
Since then, Riley indeed never met Donovan again. Riley had even started planning to wrap things up at home and then jet off abroad with her kids.
It made zero sense for Catherine to come after her now; it wouldn't do either of them any good.
Feeling a headache coming on and getting pretty annoyed, Riley grabbed her phone to call Catherine and get some answers. But after a few tries, she realized Catherine had blocked her.
Frustrated, Riley turned off her phone and apologized to Deacon, who was waiting nearby, "Sorry, my personal drama is spilling over into the institute."
Deacon, who'd overheard her chat with Adam and noticed her mood shift, had a pretty good idea of what was up. He gave her a reassuring smile, "Well, it's happened. Let's figure out how to fix it."
Riley nodded. Both of them immediately thought of the Benedict family. Riley had previously cured Daniel, and the Benedict family had promised to supply the institute with meds at half price through the Benedict Group.
Once the Benedict family agreed, other pharmaceutical suppliers jumped on the bandwagon, looking to collaborate and explaining their situations.
Riley knew these folks were just caving to the Sutton family's pressure and didn't hold it against them. The institute had worked with multiple suppliers before.
This time, the batch of meds just didn't come from the Benedict Group, and Riley wondered if they had any extra.
Feeling a bit hopeful, she said to Deacon, "Let's check with the Benedict Group if they still have the meds we need. We didn't place an order before, so I'm not sure if it's still possible."
Deacon nodded, "I was thinking the same thing."
He pulled out his phone and called the contact at the Benedict Group.
But the call just rang and rang. Both of them started to worry.
Riley still clung to a bit of hope. The Benedict Group was a big deal in H City's pharmaceutical scene, and the Wilder Group had always had a good relationship with them.
She couldn't believe the Wilder Group would mess with the Benedict Group too, or that Dalton would break his promise. But this call was making her nervous.
After what felt like forever, someone finally picked up.
Deacon, trying to stay calm, greeted the person on the other end with a smile, "Mr. Myers..."
But before he could finish, Barry Myers cut him off with a laugh, "Dr. Stone, let's chat another time. I'm in a meeting right now. Gotta go!"
And just like that, Barry hung up.
Listening to the dial tone, Deacon's face turned serious.
Because Riley had cured Daniel, their institute had always been in the Benedict Group's good books. This had never happened before. Barry's words were clearly an excuse.
It seemed the Benedict Group had also gotten orders from the Wilder Group to cut them off.
Riley didn't hear the whole conversation, but she caught Deacon's greeting and saw him get cut off before he could even mention the meds. Deacon's face was grim as he hung up.
Seeing this, Riley's heart sank too.
