Chapter 39 An Unusual Relationship

As Riley exited the room, she carefully lowered her voice and said to the two children on the other end, "Be good, mommy is still treating patients and will come back later. You can play with your godmother for a while."

The two children were used to mommy coming home late because of work and obediently agreed.

At the same time, inside the room.

The expression on Donovan's face was so cold that it was almost frozen, and his anger churned inside him.

The missed hand of Finley just now and the word "mommy" on the phone kept replaying in his mind.

No wonder she was so distant when she saw Finley.

This woman was already married, and she even had a child with another man!

That's why she abandoned their child back then!

He lowered his eyes and looked at his daughter, who was still standing in the same spot.

There was a trace of disappointment on the little girl's face, but she still earnestly stared at the door, waiting for her to come back.

This scene pierced his heart even more.

Even if she came back, she still wouldn't want the child!

Donovan's eyes darkened frighteningly. He walked over to Finley in large strides, bent down, and picked her up.
Finley looked at his father in confusion and tugged at his collar, indicating that he didn't want to be held.

However, Donovan didn't notice and coldly said to Dalton, "It's getting late, I'll take Finley home first. If Grandpa Benedict wakes up, let me know and I'll come to see him another day."

Without waiting for Dalton's response, he quickly carried Finley and left.

Riley just finished a phone call and was about to go inside.

Just as she reached the door, she saw a man with an expressionless face coming out from inside.

Riley's heart tightened and she was thinking about how to handle the situation, but the man walked past her as if he hadn't seen her.

Seeing his indifferent figure walking away, Riley couldn't help but freeze for a moment. When she snapped back to reality, she felt self-deprecating.

It seems that this man didn't care at all about the phone call just now.

Yes, they were already people from two different worlds, a fact she had long recognized.

Six years ago, Donovan didn't care about her, let alone now when she had done what she had done before leaving.

Now, this man probably wouldn't care about her anymore, just like the two children – they were strangers to him.

Now, when she thought about her emotional ups and downs just now, Riley felt like a joke.

She stood outside the door for a long time before sighing softly, slowly gathering her thoughts and then stepped inside.

In the room, there was only Dalton left.

Everything that had happened between the two of them just now was noticed by Dalton.

For some reason, he felt that the relationship between the two of them was not as simple as it seemed.

Especially Van.

It was the first time he had seen Van express so many emotions towards a woman.

Curiosity filled Dalton's mind, but this was their private affair and he didn't ask further. Instead, he talked to Riley about Mr. Benedict Senior's condition.

Finley was carried out of the villa by his father and sat in the car. He became anxious and wrote a series of words in his book, tugging at his father's clothes to get his attention.

"I haven't talked to Auntie yet, can we not leave?"

Donovan's emotions became even more turbulent and his eyebrows furrowed.

Finley sensed that his father's mood seemed a bit down, and with a hint of concern in her eyes, she wrote: Daddy, what's wrong? Why aren't you happy?
